Collecting autographs through the mail

Do you like movies? Of course, we all do. But not everyone knows that you can obtain signed photos of virtually any star in Hollywood merely by writing them a letter. It's a cheap and fun hobby for anyone interested in memorabilia.

Okay, you don't know where to get started. First, you need a list of celebrity addresses. After all, how else would you know where to send your fan letter to? There are dozens of books available at your local bookstore that have the addresses you are looking for. The internet is where i started. Simply type "celebrity addresses" into your web browser and watch. Dozens of sites are going to appear. Simply put, you get what you pay for here. Free address lists are nice, but the ones you pay a small fee to obtain are more up to date and will produce better results.

Next, you need to visit your office supply store. You will need paper, pens, and a LOT of envelopes. The key to getting a celebrity to respond to your fan letter lies in two things. First, be brief. These are Hollywood's movers and shakers you are contacting. They appreciate the sentiments you send, but they do not have the time to read any 17 page letters, much less respond to them. Second, include a self addressed stamped envelope with your request. This envelope should be no smaller than 9x12 inches, and marked very clearly, "DON NOT BEND".

Next comes writing your letter. As I said earlier, keep it brief and to the point. Sending a photo of the celebrity to have them sign works well also, but never send anything in the mail you don't want to lose. Also include a few,(as many as ten), blank index cards with your request. Some celebrities will sign all or a few of those as well.

Now the hard part, waiting for the signatures to come back. This can take a while. Celebrities are very busy people. Don't get discouraged. Keep yourself busy writing dozens of requests, it will make the time go faster. Average response time is about 90 days.
