The Races

There are many races in Karelis, each fitting their own Realm to some degree or another. So, that's how they are separated out here! Keep in mind that the races can interbreed. But use your head, a six foot male human and and a one foot female pixie are not capable of mating!

THE EARTH REALM

HUMANITY
Well, they usually have green skin and their backs are covered with purple fur . . j/k . . no explanation needed here . .

ELVES
Physically, elves are pretty much just humans with pointy ears. However, they are a touch more inclined to magic and tend to be more refined and slender in appearance. Plus, most are excellent archers. Their lifespans are different as well: a 250 year old elf is equivalent in age to a 25 year old human.

DWARVES
I think we all know what dwarves are. If you really don't know and would like a description, E-mail me. I suppose I can say something though. Karelian dwarves are between 2.5' to 4' tall.

THE SEA REALM

MERFOLK
Human on land and with a fish tail in the water. Eye and tail color often reflect the ocean's own coloring, but not always. Simple enough. Merfolk have the same lifespans as humanity.

SELKIES
Selkies are seals in the water and human on land, however, few people know this since selkies are rarely seen and regarded partly as myth. This is due to the fact that selkies, for the most part, stay offshore in large pods with both wild and selkie-bonded serpents.
For a physical appearance, in true seal form, they can be any color found naturally in wild seals. As to their land forms, selkies are typically well-built and handsome/beautiful humans (in appearance). As an added bonus, they enjoy the lifespan of elves.

THE SKY REALM

FAIES
In short, faies are pretty much just butterfly winged humans. They are the most common of Sky Biol creatures and their talents and interests vary greatly.

SPRITES
Sprites are typically 3 to 5 feet in height with gossamer or butterfly-like wings and a pair of antenna. In general, they are submissive and gentle - which matches their fine-boned and sometimes frail appearing bodies.

PIXIES
The smallest of Karelis's races stands around 1 to 2 feet high and is literally loaded with magic. The power that this temperamental race exhibits is incredible and ranges over all possible forms of magic.
Pixies can have any complexion of skin and most often have vividly colored wings that match both the individual's hair and favorite hue.

TRUE FIRE

DEMONS
Karelian demons are not quite what their name represents. These demons are described as quiet, thoughtful, and philosophical. They even care enough to hide their human-sized forms from others (so as to lessen fright) with long black cloaks. A demon's bodily appearance is one of nightmares. Flat black, dry skin barely covers the humanoid bones and their one-color eyes (no definite pupils, irises, or whites) are any color but black. (a little extra here: demons are hairless)
Demons live for who knows how long? Their bodies give little indication of age and the years ago which they were born are irrelevent details to most of them.

DARK ELVES/HUMANS
Same as the Earth versions except these always have dark skin and hair. Plus, almost all of the individuals in these sub-races possess fire-related magic.

IMPS
Imps are basically small, vestigial-winged demons in form. Though while their larger cousins tend to be literally little more than skin and bones, imps are often pot-bellied. 'Vestigial' is typed in regard to their wings because this species cannot really fly. _Maybe_ hover off the ground a little bit in a bout of excitement, or they could possibly slow a fall from a high area . . but don't get any ideas about flights of imps soaring from city to city.
In personality, they are typically mischevious trouble-makers and pranksters. There are exceptions, yes, but not many. Noone regards them as a serious threat - just commonplace irritations to be dealt with. Same aging as elves.

ALL REALMS

SHADES
Shades are the only exception to belonging to a Realm as species, since they can be any in Karelis. As a description for what Realm an individual shade would fit in, whichever Realm its non-shade counterpart is in, that's what the shade is in.
Shades look fairly normal, except that they get lighter and more transparent the more light that is shined upon them. Likewise, if one can see in the dead of a moonless night, they appear normal and solid. However, they cannot be physically touched by anything but their own kind (this doesn't mean that they can walk through walls or the like). Like said, shades can look like any race and have all of that race's characteristics - but they are their own species! A shade may look like a fairy and be called a shadow fairy, but it was born to two other shadow fairies and no other combination.
