Published Works for Band and Wind Ensemble

Jeffrey’s works for Band and Wind Ensemble are published exclusively by C-Alan Publications. You can visit their site and view sample pages of the scores and listen to the pieces. They include:

  • Symphony No. 1 “The Arthurian” – Grade V     18:00
Duration This five-movement work is based on the Grail Legend. The movements are:
    1. Merlin
    2. Guinevere & Lancelot
    3. Morgan of the Faeries
    4. The Holy Grail
    5. King Arthur
A great piece for the advanced high school or college wind ensemble, the Arthurian could also be used as a contest piece. Parts are demanding throughout the ensemble and there are extensive percussion parts. An overall Grade V, each movement individually is more of a Grade IV.

  • Sir Gawain and the Green Knight – Grade IV    6:00 Duration
(Commissioned by the Central Oklahoma Directors Association)
This follow-up to the Arthurian Symphony is a great concert opener or contest piece. Written in ABA form, it follows the adventures of Sir Gawain and his battle with the Green Knight. As in the fourth movement of the symphony, the middle section of this piece relies heavily on the use of Gregorian Chant (here to symbolize the meeting of Gawain and the Green Knight at Yuletide). An exciting and challenging work for high school or college bands!

  • Prairie Fire – Grade III    3:30 Duration
(Commissioned by the Prairie Star Middle School Band, Leawood, Kansas)
This piece was created with the help of the commissioning band members. Jeffrey likes to include student input whenever possible, so he had the students in PSMS Band submit thematic material to be included in the work. With a little refining, a strong concert piece was born. Rondo in form, Prairie Fire, is a solid work for advanced middle school or high school band.

  • ABrACADABrA! – Grade II    3:00 Duration
(Part of the MAESTRO Series – to be released in 2004)
Here’s a fun piece for your middle school or high school band. Using the traditional rondo form, this novelty piece spins a web of spooky melodies that will delight your audience! All of the sections of the band are featured along with some entrancing vocal techniques and a non-standard percussion section (but hey, aren’t they all?).

  • Antique Voyage – Grade II    3:00 Duration
(Part of the MAESTRO Series – to be released in 2004)
Here’s a piece for your second or third year band students that will make them sound like pros! Modal, in 3/4 time, this piece depicts an ancient sea voyage. Woodwinds and brass are given equal treatment with strong support in the percussion. Your kids will love this!

  • Ancient Dances – Grade III    5:00 Duration
(Part of the MAESTRO Series – to be released in 2004)
Here’s a suite of dances that is not your typical contest fare. Based on Renaissance dances, this five-movement work features strong rhythmic and melodic diversity. A strong proponent of Renaissance music, Jeffrey has made these dances accessible for the modern concert band while maintaining the original musical style.
