Here we sit in the quiteness of late evening. The sound of cricketts and frogs
in the spring air, we set out for our adventure. The trees began to waffer as the soft, silent
breeze brushed their highest tops and gently swayed them in shifting directions. The mountains
lay in the background, as the senery of a peaceful day took it's place.
We looked to our right to see how far the creek did flow. Crossing it, the battle of
fear. As we presaviered and jumped the rippling water of the side yard, we planted our feet
onto the rich soil of the other side, plowing to conquer the top of the muddy slope.
Steep as it seemed, we reached the end and followed the path. With backpacks in near and
stumble-walking toe-to-toe, we ventured beyond and continued our journey.
On the zig-zag trail to it's highest point was our goal (as have done before), and we
reached the residence at the top. We prided in our accomplishment once again as we looked
farther right, and ahead also, curious of what lye there.
Our eyes automatically narrowed to the sun's sudden brighter beam through the thin trees.
The stretched-out forest in front of us, we wanted to press on. Neither had mastured
farther than this elevation or distance in this particular back yard.
Bouncing on carefree, we acquired long, caining sticks as hikers often used. Ceasing for
a moments rest and taste of water, we seeked to glare ahead of what was to come upon.
Knowing not of where to go, we continued straight forward as it grew more stranger yet
steps behind faint and completed, noticing so simple surroundings as small twigs, fallen
leaves, and prickled branches which tried our patience.
