Lexington Catholic coach Danny Haney has done it again. He has brought 19 teams to town to compete for the championship of this event. This tournament is in its fourth year and has gained prestige as one of the top holiday events.
This year's field will consist of the following teams: Archbishop Alter (Kettering OH), Brentwood Academy (TN), Greenwood, Harlan, Harrison Co., Knott Co. Central, Lafayette, Lexington Catholic, Longwood (NY), Muhlenberg North, Newport Central Catholic, Male, Perry Co. Central, Pleasure Ridge Park, Russellville, Scott Co., St. Patrick, St. Raymond (NY), and Washington College Academy (TN).
Some of the outstanding alumni who have played here include: Elton Brand (Duke - NBA), Kenny Gregory (Kansas), Karim Shabazz (Providence), J. R. VanHoose (Marshall), David Graves (Notre Dame), Jaron Brown (Pittsburgh), Erik Brown (Louisville), Casey Sanders (Duke), Rick Jones (Vanderbilt), Kenny Walker (Alabama), Nick Anderson (Class of 2000), Brandon Bender (Class of 2001), Rashaad Carruth (Class of 2001), Antonio Lawrence (Class of 2002), and too many others to mention.
There are several fine teams and many outstanding players scheduled to participate in this event. One of the keys to the defending champion Scott County will be the health of 5-11 Sr. guard Casey Alsop. Casey suffered a back injury during summer AAU competition. He is an excellent outside shooter and must come up large for Scott Co. to defend the title. Lexington Catholic is off to a great start, but will 6-4 Sr. Matt Heissenbuttel and the rest of the Lexington Catholic squad be able to battle inside the paint with some of the size they'll see in this tournament? These and many more questions will be answered in thirty-two games over the next five days.

Acknowledgments
Congratulations to Lexington Catholic coach Danny Haney and the tournament sponsors for putting together a great five days of basketball. Also, congratulations to Billy Hicks and the Scott Co. Cardinals for a job well done. The Cardinals came into the tournament with a 3-3 record but obviously the rumors of their program's demise were greatly exaggerated. Casey Alsop answered any questions concerning his health with a MVP performance. Although Lexington Catholic lost to St. Raymond they proved that they can compete with the larger teams. Catholic's Matt Heissenbuttel made the All Tournament Team despite battling in the paint with players 6 to 8 inches taller.
I would also like to express appreciation for the hospitality room where I could organize my notes between sessions. A special thanks to Butch Cope and the "stats crew" -- nobody does it better.
There were many outstanding players in the tournament. I was especially impressed with 6-11 Jr. David Harrison of Brentwood Academy (TN). He has a rare combination of size, speed, and great hands that could make him very special before he graduates.
