Norfolk State University coach Robert Jones started the following lineup: 6-6 Sr. LaTre’e Russell, 6-5 Jr. D’Shon Taylor, 6-9 Jr. RaShid Gaston, 6-4 Sr. Jamel Fuentes, and 6-4 Jr. Jeff Short.  Eastern Kentucky University coach Jeff Neubauer countered with 6-7 Sr. Timmy Knipp. 6-7 Jr. Ja’Mill Powell, 6-8 Sr. Eric Stutz, 6-2 Sr. Corey Walden, and 6-2 So. Isaac McGlone.

Eastern Kentucky withstood a late 16-4 run by Norfolk State to earn an 81-75 victory and advance in the tournament.  The score was tied seven times and there were six lead changes in the game.  Eastern Kentucky shot 51.9% from the field including 13 of 31 from the three point line.  The Colonels connected on 12 of 13 free throws, pulled down 20 rebounds, and scored 19 points off 14 Norfolk State turnovers.  Norfolk State shot 60.8% from the field including nine of 15 from beyond the arc.  The Spartan connected on four of 10 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored seven points off seven Eastern Kentucky turnovers.

Corey Walden led Eastern Kentucky with 22 points including three three point baskets, five rebounds, eight assists, and three steals.  Eric Stutz added 22 points, four rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Timmy Knipp recorded 13 points including two three point baskets.  Ja’Mill Powell chipped in with 12 points on four three point baskets.  6-8 Sr. Deverin Muff blocked three shots tonight.

Rashid Gaston led Norfolk State with 22 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists.  6-7 Sr. Malik Thomas added 20 points including four three point baskets.  Jeff Short recorded 14 points including four three point baskets.  D’Shon Taylor also reached double figures with 13 points.  Jamel Fuentes dished out seven assists.
