Eastern Kentucky coach Dan McHale started the following lineup: 6-7 Sr. Jarelle Reischel, 6-7 Sr. Ja’Mill Powell, 6-9 Fr. Nick Mayo, 6-2 Jr. Isaac McGlone, and 6-5 Jr. Javontae Hawkins.  Tennessee State coach Dana Ford countered with 6-6 Sr. Demontez Loman, 6-5 Jr. Tahjere McCall, 6-7 Sr. Wayne Martin, 6-2 Sr. Keron DeShields, and 6-4 So. Darreon Reddick.

 

Eastern Kentucky, buoyed by 64% shooting from the field and 14 three point baskets, defeated Tennessee State by a score of 97-81.  Eastern Kentucky shot 64% from the field including 14 of 22 from the three point line.  The Colonels connected on 19 of 23 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored 20 points off 14 Tennessee State turnovers.  Tennessee State shot 39.4% from the field including eight of 21 from beyond the arc.  They connected on 21 of 26 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored 22 points off 20 Eastern Kentucky turnovers.

 

Javontae Hawkins led Eastern Kentucky with 36 points including six three point baskets, six rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Hawkins was 11 of 15 from the field including six of eight from beyond the arc and eight of eight free throws.  Nick Mayo added 21 points and 10 rebounds.  Jarelle Reischel recorded 11 points, three assists, and five steals.  Ja’Mill Powell chipped in with 10 points, six rebounds, and three assists.  6-1 So. Paul Jackson dished out seven assists.

 

Keron DeShields led Tennessee State with 21 points including eight of eight free throws and five assists.  Tahjere McCall added 17 points and four steals.  6-5 Sr. Marcus Roper recorded 16 points including four three point baskets.  Darreon Reddick chipped in with 11 points.  Wayne Martin added 10 points and six rebounds.
