Southern Illinois University Edwardsville coach Jon Harris started the following lineup: 6-8 Sr. Jalen Henry, 6-6 Sr. Keenan Simmons, 6-4 So. Justin Benton, 5-11 Jr. Jaylen McCoy, and 6-2 So. Christian Ellis.  Eastern Kentucky University coach Dan McHale countered with 6-7 Sr. Zach Charles, 6-5 Fr. Peyton Broughton, 6-9 Jr. Nick Mayo, 5-10 So. Dujuanta Weaver, and 6-2 Fr. JacQuess Hobbs.

 

SIUE held a 10 point lead late and withstood a late Eastern Kentucky rally to earn an 85-82 victory in a game in which the Cougars never surrendered the lead.  SIUE shot 56.6% from the field including nine of 17 from the three point line.  The Cougars connected on 16 of 23 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 11 EKU turnovers.  EKU shot 44.6% from the field including eight of 22 from beyond the arc.  The Colonels connected on 16 of 18 free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and scored 21 points off 16 SIUE turnovers.  EKU held an 18-4 advantage on second chance points.

 

Jalen Henry was virtually unstoppable tonight as he scored 35 points including five three point baskets and pulled down six rebounds.  Henry was 13 of 18 from the field including five of six from beyond the arc and four of seven from the free throw line.  Christian Ellis added 12 points, four rebounds, and three assists.  6-3 Jr. Daniel Kinchen recorded 12 points including two three point baskets and four rebounds.  Justin Benton chipped in with seven points, three rebounds, and five assists.  6-4 Jr. David McFarland added eight points and seven rebounds.

 

Nick Mayo led EKU with 25 points including eight of nine free throws, four rebounds, and three assists.  5-11 Sr. Dillon Avare added 11 points including three three point baskets.  JacQuess Hobbs recorded 10 points, six rebounds, and three assists.  6-6 So. DeAndre Dishman added 10 points, five rebounds, and four blocked shots.  Zach Charles chipped in with eight points and six rebounds.  6-5 Fr. AJ Youngman also scored eight points including two three point baskets.
