Eastern Kentucky University coach A.W. Hamilton started the following lineup: 6-5 Jr. Jordan Oakley, 6-5 So. Peyton Broughton, 6-9 Sr. Nick Mayo, 5-10 Jr. Dujuanta Weaver, and 6-2 Jr. Kelvin Robinson.  Chattanooga coach Lamont Paris countered with 6-6 Fr. Kevin Easley, 6-4 Jr. Jonathan Scott, 7-0 Sr. Thomas Smallwood, 5-9 Fr. Donovann Toatley, and 6-1 Jr. Jerry Johnson.

 

Eastern Kentucky trailed 45-36 at halftime but rallied behind Nick Mayo’s 35 points in the second half to defeat Chattanooga 81-78.  Chattanooga had one last chance but missed a long three point basket attempt.  Eastern Kentucky shot 43.1% from the field including eight of 29 from the three point line.  The Colonels connected on 17 of 24 free throws, pulled down 36 rebounds, and committed 13 turnovers.  Chattanooga shot 47.2% from the field including six of 18 from beyond the arc.  The Mocs connected on 22 of 31 free throws, pulled down 38 rebounds, and committed 20 turnovers.

 

Nick Mayo led Eastern Kentucky with 40 points including four three point baskets, 12 of 13 free throws, pulled down 12 rebounds, and blocked two shots.  6-2 So. JacQuess Hobbs added 13 points.  Peyton Broughton added eight points including two three point baskets, four rebounds, and three assists.

 

Kevin Easley led Chattanooga with 22 points and seven rebounds.  6-0 Fr. Maurice Commander added 16 points including three three point baskets and six rebounds.  Thomas Smallwood recorded 12 points, eight rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Jonathan Scott also reached double figures with 10 points. 

 

Eastern Kentucky 36 45 – 81

Chattanooga 45 33 – 78

 

Eastern Kentucky (81) – Oakley 2, Broughton 8, Mayo 40, Weaver 6, Robinson 4, Hobbs 13, Brown 2, T. King 6.
