Berea vs. Madison Central (Girls)

Berea coach Dammian Stepp started the following lineup: 6-0 Fr. Madison Howell, 5-8 Fr. Alexis Newman. 5-11 Sr. Adrienne Beggs, 5-3 So. Melissa Gosney, and 5-6 Fr. Mati Stepp.  Madison Central coach Robert Cooksey countered with 5-10 Jr. Jekauri McKeithen, 5-7 Jr. Taleya Todd, 5-9 Sr. Logan Hudson, 5-6 Sr. Madison Barnard, and 5-6 Sr. Kelsey Powell.

 

Berea defeated Madison Central 57-53 to earn their first victory over the Lady Indians since March 2003.  Berea led by 15 points with 5:19 left in the third quarter but Madison Central rallied to take a 51-49 lead with 1:43 left in the game.  Madison Howell nailed a three point basket to give Berea a 52-51 lead and a combination of misses Madison Central shots and Berea free throws ensured the victory.  Madison Central’s downfall was their inability to locate Berea’s perimeter shooters and the Lady Pirates torched them for nine three point baskets.

 

Berea shot 40.5% from the field including nine of 21 from the three point line.  The Lady Pirates connected on 14 of 22 free throws, pulled down 36 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 17 Madison Central turnovers.  Madison Central shot 32.7% from the field including three of 16 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Indians connected on 16 of 20 free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and scored 22 points off 21 Berea turnovers.

 

Madison Howell led Berea with 18 points including three three point baskets, nine rebounds, two assists, and two steals.  Mati Stepp added 13 points. two rebounds, and seven assists.  Alexis Newman recorded 11 points including three three point baskets and five rebounds.  Melissa Gosney chipped in with eight points including two three point baskets.  Adrienne Beggs recorded five points, eight rebounds, two assists, and three steals.

 

Jekauri McKeithen led Madison Central with 19 points, nine rebounds, and three blocked shots.  Taleya Todd added 17 points including eight of 11 free throws, three rebounds, and four steals.  Madison Barnard recorded eight points including five of six free throws and two steals.
