Louisville All-Star Dancers
Policy Manual

Basic Requirements of LAS Dancers

LAS must be a top priority. Work and other extra curricular activities can not conflict with the regular, pre-set schedule. Studio competitive teams are permitted as long as schedules do not conflict.

By agreeing to accept a position as an all-star dancer, you are making a commitment that spans the months of June through March. Please understand it is important to completely understand the policies of LAS and how it functions before signing the commitment form found in the back of this manual. It is completely necessary to the success of this squad that every member maintains their position on the squad through the end of the season.

Every member of LAS, regardless of the number of years they have danced for the team or the leadership positions they have served, must audition for placement on the squad at the start of each new season. Being on the squad one year IN NO WAY GUARANTES placement on the team the following year.

If at some point in the season, you become injured, especially if you are having problems dancing or conditioning, it is your responsibility to tell the coach immediately. Do not work your body on its injury.

Every dancer will participate in the two annual team community service activities. These events will be coordinated by the captains and officers and approved by the staff.

Basic Conduct of Dancers

By accepting the privilege and honor of being an all-star dancer, a member accepts the fact that her actions and behaviors are more prominent than those not associated with such an activity, and behaviors should be adjusted accordingly.

Members must not use foul language at practice, camp, competitions, fund-raisers, or any other LAS event. This is an issue of respect towards your coaches, teammates, and all involved with LAS. THIS IS NOT PERMITTED AT ANY EVENT, INCLUDING LAS GATHERINGS. 0.5 demerits

Smoking and/or drug usage (including alcohol) is not permitted at any time throughout the season, in or out of LAS events. Automatic dismissal

Sportsmanship/Basic Behavior Guidelines for Parents and Dancers

Members must display excellent sportsmanship at all times. This includes cheering and congratulating other teams at competitions and events, acting in a friendly, congenial manner backstage at all events, and maintaining an overall optimistic expression mannerisms throughout the complete duration at any and all events. 1.5 demerits

**Each parent, friend, relative and other relations to LAS must maintain superior levels of public conduct at all events (fund-raisers, competitions, performances, etc.) It is completely necessary that any frustration, anger, misunderstanding, or disappointment towards a dancer of LAS or other squad, a coach of LAS or other squad, a parent of LAS or other squad, or any other individual at any LAS event be handled in a professional, mature manner.

Conflicts with any individual (dancer, coach, other parent, etc.) must be addressed through the LAS Coaching Staff first before directly approaching the person.

Team Communication

When conflict arises between two dancers, one must notify a captain/officer/coach of the problem. This will help us maintain proper team attitudes for an atmosphere conducive to success.

**When conflict arises between two parents concerning an LAS matter, one must notify the coaching staff of the problem.

When a dancer is experiencing conflict with a coach it is extremely important that the issue is taken directly to a captain or coach.

**When a parent must speak with a coach regarding general questions or if there is a conflict, it is absolutely necessary that the parent notify the staff ahead of time to schedule a time to talk. Coaches will not take time out of regularly scheduled LAS events (rehearsals, technique classes, conditioning sessions, competitions, fund-raisers, performances, etc.) to talk with parents; discussions between parents and staff are welcome – they just must take place at the appropriate time. Remember that when a coach can not take time out of the beginning, middle, or end of any LAS event, it is only because the staff has dedicated/scheduled that time for the dancers.

**There is absolutely never to be any time when a dancer directly addresses another LAS parent with a conflict. There is absolutely never to be any time when a parent directly addresses another dancer with conflict. These two matters MUST be addressed through the coaching staff! 1 demerit (dancer disrespecting other parent)

**It is crucial to the success of LAS 01-02 that all conflict be attempted to be talked through by all parties and solved before drastic actions are taken by any party.

A team meeting will be conducted once a week and must be attended in the same manner as rehearsals. It is the dancer’s responsibility to contact the coaching staff immediately after they miss any LAS event (even a team gathering). Important information may be covered at any time, not just at "meetings," and every dancer will be held accountable for all information.

Two monthly calendars will be distributed to parents and dancers prior to the beginning of each month. One copy is for the parents; the other is for the dancer and must be kept in their team binder at all times. Often, slight changes or additions to the calendar are made. Dancers need to make careful note of this information and be sure to pass along the new facts to their parents.

Basic Understandings of LAS Demerit System

A demerit system is found at the end of this document. This system will deal with any infractions of this manual. Demerits and/or consequences may be adjusted at any time at the discretion of the coaching staff.

Only the coaching staff will issue demerits even though captain, co-captain, and officers have regular duties of noting occurrences when demerits should be issued.

When you are issued demerit(s), the coaching staff will notify you so that you can sign to the demerit/consequence you receive. You have 24 hours (regardless of practice schedules, holiday schedules, etc.) from the point you signed for the action to appeal the action. Appeals must be submitted to coaching staff only through writing, fax, or email. NO VERBAL OR TELEPHONE APPEALS WILL BE ACCEPTED.

If the coaching staff does appeal your demerit(s), you will be notified. You must then sign the verification.

**Parents may view their child’s demerit records at any time. Other dancers’ demerit records are kept confidential.

Suspended dancers must attend ALL scheduled events, including performances, competitions, and fund-raisers. At all events you are suspended from, you must still remain with the team and coaching staff. Upon decision by coaching staff, you may be asked to still dress out in the appropriate warm-up/uniform.

If dismissed from the squad, the member must return all team property immediately, washed and cleaned. Please refer to a latter section of the manual for rules regarding finances when a dancer is no longer a part of the squad.

Members must uphold all rules and regulations detailed within this manual. At any time during the season, the staff may make amendments to the policies. If one fails to follow the guidelines of LAS or if they accumulate specific quantities of demerits the following consequences will result REGARDLESS of whether it is the beginning of the season or the day before nationals: immediate team drills, service hours, suspension, and/or dismissal. Inappropriate behaviors not only reflect the individual, but the entire team and its reputation.

Service hours, suspensions, and any other consequences do not erase any demerits… they are the punishment for acquiring that specific number.

THE GOOD OF THE SQUAD ALWAYS COMES BEFORE THE INDIVIDUAL. NO ONE IS IRREPLACABLE OR INDISPENSABLE. IF IT IS IN THE BEST INTEREST OF THE SQUAD THAT ANY INDIVIDUAL NOT PERFORM OR THAT SHE BE REMOVED FROM THE SQUAD AT ANY POINT IN THE SEASON, THIS ACTION WILL BE TAKEN, BY DECISION OF THE COACHING STAFF.

Uniforms/Other Expenses

Throughout the season, each member as called by the staff must purchase various items. The staff will further determine whether or not the item is individual property (you may keep this property as your own at the end of the season) or team property (items must be returned to coaches at the end of the season). For all property, whether team or individual, it is the dancer’s responsibility to financially accommodate for all expenses. These funds can be obtained through the dancer’s personal team account built from individual profits through team fund-raisers or through the dancer’s family’s personal funds.

Uniforms are only to be worn at LAS performance events, when the staff calls for them. Uniforms, or any parts of, may not be worn to a conditioning session, technique class, rehearsal, etc. 1 demerit

Maintenance of all team property (individual or team) is solely the responsibility of the individual. If something is torn, damaged, or lost, it must be immediately brought to the attention of the staff. The dancer must repair or replace the article at her expense (not from her personal LAS account). Failure to notify us in a timely manner of the situation: 2 demerits

Team articles will be issued to individual members as they are needed. If an item is damaged or lost, the dancer must pay the value of the item to the team immediately.

Team items that are purchased for individual use such as tee shirts, warm-ups, duffel bags, tights, dance shoes, camp wear, etc. must be kept up with the entire season. If at any point an item becomes damaged or lost, you must report it to the staff immediately in order to have it replaced in an efficient and timely manner. Failure to notify staff in timely manner: 2 demerits

All uniforms for the season (camp and nationals) will be purchased with individual profits from fund-raisers when possible. When this is not an option, the individual dancer will pay the remainder of the fee for the costume. All costume material is team property.

Choreography Rehearsals and Technique Classes

Members are expected to be cooperative and attentive at all times. Repeated disruptions will result in warnings, demerits, and possible removal from that class. Continued problems will result in calls to parents, suspensions, and possible removal from squad. Disrespect towards teachers, staff, captains, officers, or other teammates will not be tolerated. Warning, then 1 demerit

It is every dancer’s responsibility to bring material back to every rehearsal better than how they left. To do this, it is necessary to take extensive notes during and after practice.

Constructive criticism/suggestions given in a polite manner at the correct times are welcome and encouraged from dancers to other teammates.

No talking during rehearsals; questions may be asked when recognized by the coaching staff, captains, or teachers. Warning, then 1 demerit

The coaching staff will designate one instructor and one demonstrator to lead in the instruction of all new material that a staff member does not teach. Regardless of opposing opinions, what these designated dancers say, goes! It is the responsibility of these two selected individuals to meet outside of normally scheduled team time to plan the teaching of the routine and to make sure they are both in agreement on the proper execution of the material. Failure for instructors to properly prepare in advance: 1.5 demerits

If you miss any choreography sessions or technique classes it is your responsibility to meet with another dancer to completely learn all that you missed (including your group work, where you are in formations, etc.) Do not be the weak link that slows everyone down. It is not fair to make the instructor waste everyone else’s time to teach you what you have missed. Productive practice equals success. Remember that if you do not know your material (this is your responsibility – not your coaches’), you will not perform in that event! If your absences are due to vacations, etc., all missed choreography should be known before returning to practice (the arrangement to meet with another dancer should be made before you leave town). If your absence was not known ahead of time, you were sick, you need to meet with another team-mate as soon as you can. 1 demerit – will be judged on a case to case basis

LAS is a team effort. When someone calls and requests that you meet with them outside of normally scheduled time, please make every effort to help them out

The coaching staff will make every effort to video the practice/technique session that you miss so that you can pick up your video from PH and take it home to work with it in your spare time.

Be a smart dancer – if you know in advance that you will be missing a technique/choreography session, plan ahead of time to meet with a dancer to learn the missed material.

Every rehearsal/technique class is mandatory during the months of May through March.

An instructor chosen by the staff will teach the technique class. The coaching staff will not be present on a regular basis at each technique class. The technique instructor will be given a copy of every dancer’s medical release form.

Every LAS member is welcome to participate in other dance studios if they are able to arrange their schedules so that it doesn’t conflict with LAS. It is an asset for you as a dancer to be able to receive technique instruction from other outlets other than LAS but all All-Stars MUST take every LAS technique class (your personal outside instruction does not exclude you from this). Technique classes carry the same importance as choreography sessions and must be attended in the same manner.

Additional practices and technique classes will be established as needed, especially at the start of each new season, before competitions, when many performances are close together, and when fund-raisers conflict with normal rehearsal times. The coaching staff will make every effort to give you and your family a minimum of a one-week’s notice to every change in the schedule. Although, please understand that there are always extenuating circumstances.

Cuts will be made at the beginning of the second to last practice before an event. Anyone that fails to execute the routine at the level of the team majority (memorization problems, lack of mastering certain skills in the given choreography, a combination of problems due to missing many recent rehearsals, etc.) will not be permitted to perform. Any individual can be cut from any performance (even nationals!) for the above reasons, regardless of their past/previous leadership positions on LAS, their age, their talent level, or the number of years they have danced for LAS.

Conditioning Sessions

Conditioning sessions carry the same importance as a choreography rehearsal and should be treated in the same manner.

All attendance/tardiness rules apply to conditioning sessions, however you may wear any attire that you choose.

It is your responsibility to chart the work you do in “individual” conditioning sessions that involve individual work out (not aerobic classes led by an instructor at Powerhouse). You should chart this in the LAS team Powerhouse Folder found in the file cabinet by the scale.

At every conditioning session that is not an aerobic class, each dancer must spend a minimum of 20 minutes on the treadmill. The coaching staff will set the number of minutes that must be spent running versus walking as the season progresses. Working at your level is encouraged, according to speed and incline setting, and appropriate as long as improvement is seen over time in the notes you take on your chart. Stamina! Endurance! Power! Success!

It is fine to work at the gym in pairs as long as this situation does not impede on the level of your work out.

If you chose to use the Powerhouse facilities outside of normally scheduled LAS time, it is the individual dancer’s responsibility to communicate with their parent regarding the fact that the entire team/coaching staff will not be present.

There may be mandated LAS time at Powerhouse when the staff is not present. These times will be clearly communicated in advance with all dancers and parents. Jeff Ruwe, the owner of Powerhouse, will have a copy of every dancer’s medical release form.

We must, at all times, keep in mind “Powerhouse etiquette.” Remember, they are our #1 business sponsor and we must at all times treat their staff and facility with ultimate respect. Only water will be allowed in the studio (no other drink or food). If you are on “break time” at Powerhouse, you must go in the locker room or outside on the sidewalk. Should you have to place a call, you may use the pay phone outside. It is encouraged that you get a lock and claim a locker in the locker room. If not, all of your belongings must be kept neatly in the back of the locker room, not obstructing other peoples’ space.

Appropriate Attire for Choreography Rehearsals and Technique Classes

At all choreography and technique classes:

*Hair must be secured, with clips if needed (no need to make a fashion statement – it’s just us!). If you have large bangs, they must be pinned back. No half up and half down. Pull your hair back appropriately so that there is no need to have to stop multiple times in practice to fix it!

*Nothing, not even in warm-up, may be tied around your waste.

*Warm-up articles (legwarmers, etc.) must be removed after warm-up.

*No tight fitting tank tops or tee shirts!

*Absolutely no jewelry is permitted on the hands, wrists, arms, neck, or ankles. Very small studs are allowed in the ears.

*Absolutely no facial or tongue piercings!

At all ballet technique classes:

*Ballet shoes must be worn with elastics secured.

* Tights and leotards are mandatory.

* A ballet skirt is optional.

At all jazz technique classes:

*Leotard, no sports bras or "dance tops."

*Jazz pants only (no shorts, pajama pants, warm-up pants, or sweatpants allowed).

*Jazz shoes

At all rehearsals:

*Leotard, sports bra, or "dance top."

*Jazz shoes and/or sneakers – dependent upon floor.

*Jazz pants or tights with “hot pants" (no shorts, pajama pants, warm-up pants, or sweatpants allowed). KEEP ALL SHOES IN YOUR BAG AT ALL TIMES. Failure to comply with dress code: 1 demerit

Performances/Competitions

Nail polish is not permitted at any performance unless otherwise specified by the staff. 0.5 demerit

All members must comply with the hair style/make-up design designated for each performance. 1 demerit

Prior to every performance/competition event, each dancer will be given an information sheet that will include information regarding the event (directions, costume requirements, warm-up clothing, etc.) All directions must be followed exactly. Demerits will be issued on a case to case basis

Throughout the duration of each event, the team must remain together. If you must leave the area to use the restroom, go to the dressing room, make a phone call, leave with parents, etc., you must directly tell a coach, not a captain or parent. Always use the buddy system! 0.5 demerits

Under no circumstances should ANY LAS choreography material be executed at any event or worked into any other piece of choreography without the permission of the choreographer. This is a form of plagiarism and could result in dismissal from the squad.

Parents, relatives, friends, etc. are not allowed backstage at any LAS event.

All regular jewelry rules apply with the addition of absolutely no earrings or belly rings. 0.5 demerits

Tattoos must be completely covered up and never exposed. 0.5 demerits

It is the dancer’s responsibility to bring the materials needed to take care of belly button rings and tattoos.

Missing a performance, unexcused: automatic suspension from next performance.

Financial Issues

All payments should be followed with a receipt, given to you by the coaching staff.

It is recommended that dancers keep records of their personal LAS accounts so that they can compare their records with that of the staff. This will help you if questions arise during the season regarding your personal finances.

The coaching staff will receive a coaching fee at the start of each month. This will come from a part of the monthly tuition of the team members. This fee is to help compensate for coaches’ travling expenses and time spent for LAS outside of LAS (planning, doing choreography, organizational matters, etc.) All coaches’ expenses (camp costs, camp wear, nationals expenses, etc.) will be divided equally among the members of the team, these expenses are not covered by the coaching fees. The time the coaches spend with the dancers in rehearsal time is volunteer and the staff does not receive payment for this. For example, when rehearsal schedule increases due to nationals, etc., the coaching fee will not increase.

Members are responsible for paying their monthly tuition fee on time (the first LAS event of each month). Failure to do so will result in consequences, as determined by the coaching staff. Tuition pays for the team technique classes, coaching fees, and some fall/winter team account expenses. 1.5 demerits

50% of the profits from each carwash will be used for “team account purposes.” These include but are not limited to music fees, copying expenses, etc. If the team expenses are in excess of the money earned from the carwashes, the remainder will be paid through each individual personally or through their personal LAS account.

Parents will receive an updated version of their daughter’s personal LAS account at parent meetings. If this information is needed at an alternate time (when a payment is approaching), Bill Peak, team finance manager, must be notified 72 hours in advance in order for you to receive this information. If this proper notification does not take place, you will not be allowed to pay only the partial amount of the specific payment (assuming that the remainder of the payment is in the account), you will pay the payment in full.

If an individual decides to the quit the team in midseason (this shouldn’t happen because each dancer must sign the commitment form) or if a dancer is dismissed, all their money in their personal LAS account will be equally divided between the remaining girls on the squad and placed into their personal accounts. The month’s tuition will not be refunded. It is not the responsibility of the staff to get refunds on any expenses already paid for (i.e.: national deposits, competition entries, etc.)

If an individual does quit the squad midseason or if a dancer is dismissed, the team budget will be reevaluated by the staff. Monthly tuition may slightly increase.

Depending upon the team financial situation in midseason, it may be mandated by the staff that a certain amount of money may not be withdrawn from each individual LAS account for banquet purposes. The remaining amount of money can be withdrawn closer to nationals after all other expenses have been paid for. The individual can use this amount for food/spending money at nationals.

No personal deposits of any money other than money earned through LAS fund-raisers may be deposited into individual LAS accounts.

Fund-Raisers

Every dancer’s parent or other relative is responsible for a minimum of one task at each fund-raiser. For major fund-raisers, parents may be asked to volunteer for multiple tasks. The coaching staff is not responsible for every duty at every fund-raiser. If a parent fails to adequately perform their tasks, their daughter will receive a deduction in profit.

All profits acquired through fund-raisers will be appropriately distributed among team members as the staff sees fit based on a member’s participation in planning and in the actual event, their attendance, personal effort exerted, and their ability to meet all deadlines.

All members must comply by wearing the appropriate clothing to all fund-raisers, as designated by the staff. 0.5 demerits

All tardiness/attendance rules apply to fund-raisers.

You are never allowed to "fund-raise" in the name of LAS without prior consent from the staff. This could result in dismissal from the squad. Any and all fund-raising done in the name of LAS will be deposited into their personal LAS account.

LAS Gatherings

These are developed and organized monthly by the captains and officers of the squad and serve the important purpose of the dancers becoming a true team, and are meant to be fun!

Although demerits are not issued for attendance/tardiness reasons at gatherings, please respect your coaching staff and teammates: make it a priority to attend and be on time, call if you will be late, bring the items you are assigned (two – liter, etc.).

Captain/Co-Captain/Officers

Members must show respect to leadership positions. These are demanding jobs and warrant the team’s respect and cooperation.

The staff selects all leadership positions. The members may be asked for their input but they will not vote on who fills these titles.

If you serve a leadership position for one season, it is not guaranteed that you will serve a leadership position the following season.

Your age, talent level, or number of years on LAS does not automatically entitle you for a leadership position.

Specific captain, co-captain, and officer duties will be assigned at a captain/coach/officer meeting.

The captain is in charge when the staff is not present; the co-captain is in charge when neither the captain nor staff are present, the officers are in charge when none of the above named people are present.

The staff can name any individual to any leadership position at any point during the season as well as taking any leadership position away from any individual at any point in the season.

Absences/Tardiness

If you are well enough to go to school, you are well enough to attend any LAS event. If you are sick enough to stay home from school, you should probably not attend the LAS event. Your health is crucial when we demand nothing less than your peak performance!

Whenever you will miss an LAS event of any kind on short notice – you’re sick! Or if your ride is running late and you will be late, please call 228-0814 and leave a message for the coaches. We can check these message from any phone and that will be our way to know where you are should you not be somewhere at the specified time. Failure to notify us: 1 demerit

If at the scheduled time of the LAS event you are not feeling 100%, remember that it is better to come observe and take notes rather than not show at all. If this is the situation, notify the staff in advance.

There is no reason for notification of an absence due to illness to occur thirty minutes before the scheduled event!

If there is a family emergency, contact the staff ASAP.

Work conflicts are never excused.

If anything other than an illness or family emergency is occurring requiring you to arrive late, leave early, or miss any LAS function, you must fill out an explanation report and turn it into a staff member at least one week in advance. Absences can not be excused verbally; they must go through this process to be verified. The coach will review your explanation report and will notify you as to whether or not it is excused. Without a week’s notice, it is automatically unexcused.

All summer vacation plans that you have must be submitted by the date indicated by the coaching staff. Any summer vacation plans that are made known to the staff after this date run a very high chance of being unexcused.

In the event of inclement weather, the staff will notify you as to whether or not the event is still being held. The staff will notify you ASAP of the make-up date. It is important that everyone attend on the make-up date scheduled.

** If a parent must reach their daughter/staff during a conditioning session, choreography rehearsal, or technique class, for an emergency reason, call the location that the team is at: Power House: 339-0118

When you miss any LAS event for any reason, it is your responsibility to still meet the deadlines (if something is due that day, even though you miss, it still must be turned in on or before that date). It is your responsibility to swap vision assignments with a teammate when you know you are going to be absent or have to leave early.

Demerits will be given if you are late or leave early from any event. Being on time is defined as follows: at the starting time of any event, you do not need chapstick, you do not need to use the restroom, you do not need to fix your hair, you have begun warming up those "trouble spots" in your body, you are quiet and focused, you are reading your notes in your notebook. Therefore, LAS time should be 15 minutes ahead of the time that the calendar reads

** Reasons for tardiness that are your parents’ fault will not be excused.

Demerits Issued for unexcused tardies/absences:

1-5 minutes late/leaving early: 0.5 demerits

6-10 min. late/leaving early: 1.0 demerits

11-15 min. late/leaving early: 1.5 demerits

16-20 min. late/leaving early: 2.0 demerits

21-25 min. late/leaving early: 2.5 demerits

26+ min. late/leaving early: 3.0 demerits

Missing a full rehearsal/tech/cond.: 3.0 dem.

* Note*: Conditioning sessions, choreography, and technique are all separate occassions on which demerits can be issued, regardless of if they occur in the same day.

Being Prepared For LAS

In your dance bag, you should always have the following shoes: ballet, jazz, jazz sneakers, and tennis shoes. You must also have a walkman, complete with a cassette player and spare batteries. It is a good idea to keep materials with you such as a hairbrush, extra rubberbands and clips in order to make sure that your hair is always under control. ALWAYS BRING YOUR WATER BOTTLE, BINDER, AND PEN! It is also a good idea to keep a sock full of rice (you can heat this and use it as a heating pad) and an ice pack at close hand for injuries. Failure to have your binder at any LAS event (including gatherings) 0.5 demerits

In your binder, you must always have your policy manual and your calendar.

Use of the binder (sections):

· Ballet technique (note corrections and combinations)

· Jazz technique (note corrections and combinations)

· Team info. fund-raisers

· Choreography (formations, changes, group work, etc.)

· Misc. team information

**Be sure to keep a very organized binder. Stay caught up in all notes and goal setting. Binders will be checked periodically without notice. If the binders are not properly maintained, demerits will be issued. 1 demerit

Final Basics of LAS

Gum chewing is not allowed at any technique, conditioning, or choreography session. 0.5 demerits

Deadlines must always be met. When something is due, it is due at the START of the event, not at the end when your ride comes to pick you up! 0.5 demerits for each deadline not met; 0.5 demerits for each additional day deadline is not met (regardless if LAS meets that day)

The only drink allowed during practice is water. If there is a time when snacks are permitted during any practice, no caffienated/carbonated beverages are allowed. Food must be "energy-fueling" (no greasy/heavy foods such as fast food, pizza, chips, cookies, etc.). Same food/beverage rule applies prior to all competitions/performances. 0.5 demerits

PLAN FOR EVERYTHING IN ADVANCE! Do not put things off until the last minute; you could discover problems that you would then have no time to fix.

At all times when riding in cars to and from any LAS event with a driver other than your parent: you must wear your seat belt. An LAS dancer not wearing their seatbelt being transported by an individual other than their parent will receive demerits. An LAS dancer-driver transporting LAS members that do not have their seatbelts on will also receive demerits. 1 demerit

**If a parent has specific concerns regarding who their daughter rides with, please bring this to the attention of the staff.

Important Things to Remember

It is your team and dance education. The coaching staff is not here to do it for you – they are here to help you.

Coaches have a right to ask how your practice outside of regularly scheduled LAS time is going – it is in your best interest to have a very intelligent, honest answer!

Consequences of Demerits

For every five minutes a dancer is late to choreography sessions or conditioning sessions, the entire team will end practice five minutes early and condition together with the exercise drills that the staff calls In addition, the tardy dancer will also receive the appropriate number of demerits. If being tardy is a persistent problem of this season’s squad, the staff has the right to increase the minutes of the drills. If a dancer is late to any other function other than conditioning/choreography, the staff/captain will take note. It will be a decision of the staff as to whether or not the team executes drills at the next practice for these specific tardies. It is to the staff’s discretion whether or not the drill minutes are executed that day or at an alternate time.

When five demerits are accumulated, service hours will be issued by the staff.

When nine demerits are accumulated, parents will be notified.

When ten demerits are accumulated, service hours will be issued.

When fifteen demerits are accumulated, dancer will be issued 25 boxes of donuts to fundraise with the profits being split amongst the other team members accounts.

When nineteen demerits are accumulated, parents will be notified.

When twenty demerits are accumulated, dancer will be suspended from next performance and will be issued service hours.

When twenty-four demerits are accumulated, parents will be notified.

When twenty-five demerits are accumulated, dancer will be dismissed from squad.

On occasion throughout the season, the staff MAY provide all team members with an opportunity to erase a certain number of demerits. This is not guaranteed.

Demerit Insurance

You may erase two demerits as often as you’d like, at any time during the season. You must:

Read an informative article about something pertaining to dance (technique, injury prevention, nutrition, etc.)

The article must be a minimum of two pages in length.

Prepare a one page “learning sheet” about what you learned. Make enough copies for team/staff – 12 total.

Do a brief “5 minute” crash course on your topic at a team meeting.

Two demerits will be erased after it has been presented.

Once you acquire a “magic number” of demerits (ie: 5,10,15,120, 25), you must receive the consequence. You can not erase demerits “after the fact.”
