My Luce Family
And Jesus was with them on their
Day of Terror September 11, 2001.
Hi,
In this Luce web page I am going to be relying
I would also like to say at this time, from the dates
Connie D. Poole Hurley
I am Connie D. Poole Hurley.
I am from Kentucky with roots dug
very deep here. And this is my web
page on my Luce family.
mostly on other information from Family mem-
bers and from Informaton I have gathered on the
inter-net.
I have gatherd and put here, I would say this family
had land holding for a period of years in Kentucky
and Indiana. I believe they were constantly in one
state or another. As we my Kinkead/Kinkade/
Kincaid family did.It was nothing for them to take
a Ferry Boat or Steamboat ride from one state to
another. From the the Ohio River in Ohio County,
Kentucky to Spencer County , Indiana was to them
a hop skip and jump
They could take their wagons, buggies, live stock
right along with them, as they traveled that road
from here to there.
April 8, 2002.
I am now transfering all Documents
to Luce Documents web site.It will
take me a few days to set this up.
I have amassed such a large amount
of Documents, I feel that it is time to
put them all in one place.
The Luce Family are found in the States
marked on this map, or the ones I have
About anyway(smile) And I think is part
of my family.
Updated Information.
Abner Luce and William Luce are found in
Logan County, Kentucky. In the time area
late 1700's. I found a Survey dated 1796/7.
It will be placed on the document page.
Abner Luce sr.
Appears in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky
records in 1800.He was exempt from
county levies for the elderly. This was
was usually for the old and the infirm.
This proves to me he had to be very old
at this time.
Now remember this Muhlenber County
had just become a county in 1798. So
there maybe other records else where.
Which I will get to later.Because I did
find him in other counties here in
Kentucky.
William Luce the son of Abner sr .
was a surveyor here in 1800 he
and several other's marked a
road from Adam's Ferry to
Greenville, Ky Febuary 2, 1801.

Note:
This was registered at Greenville, Kentucky.
William had several hundred acres patented

to the Green .
Five lots of the town were part of the Wm. Luce

The survey included land on both sides of the
Muddy River. One side being Logan County
prior to the formation of Butler County in 1810.
This on the side was Muhlenberg County side was
Logan County prior to 1798 when it was changed
to Muhlenberg County.
Part of the land was patened in the name
of David Luce and Richard Simmons .
The Knight survey joined their survey and was
later theirs. A hill now owned by Carmon Knight
Mercer was know by Luce's Hill.
There is still a house place that is still there
which was believed to be David Luce's.

He was a prosperous merchant and postman

Now on with some information I have
gleemed from the "Steam Boat On
The Green"
Immigrations To The West
Transporation on the mid-southern
rivers was a epic of both civilation
and culture as whole families packed
up all of their belongings and moved.
The LUCE family was one of the earlier
settlers who came to the Green River
county, William LUCE had several
hndred acres patented in his name
in 1800 Muhlenberg County.
Ben LUCE appears in 1810
list of taxpayers in Butler County,
Kentucky, and part of land was
granted to David LUCE.
They came to the Valley from New York
and New Jersery. When the migration
started and Indiania was opened up in
1829, David LUCE, moved his family
from Skilesville to Warrick County, IND.
IT was William's son, ABNER LUCE
who laid out the town of Newburg Indiana
in 1829.
So there we have now two versions of
the same story, very similar to one another
with some words changed here and there.
It has to and is part of Our History here in
Muhlenberg County, Kentucky.
To continue with,Muhlenberg County court
records of 1803 show that William Henson
was granted the right to establish a Ferry
at the mouth of Mud River and one across
the Green,. He was to charge a man and a
horse Twelve and -one-half cents to cross
Mud River.Henson owned land on both sides
of the Mud River, Having Bought it from William
LUCE.
He was the son of ABNER LUCE sr.
Who migrated to this area in the early
1800 from New Jersey.
Civil War in The Valley
Here we will find a mention
of Richard Simmons, and the
part I like so much is where I
find that my Richard Simmons
was called "Dick:
Written at the top of the page of a
old ledger the following story tells of
a pretty wedding , as told by Sarah
Elizabeth Hancock Evans.
As before I am only writting
to you bits and pieces, so
I hope you will enjoy them
as a glimps of yester year.
The hour was set for three o'clock,
butowing to a cyclone passing through
that part of the country, the groom and
and company could not get through in
carriages, Mr Evans dispatched Richard
Simmons, one of his friends, who got
through on horseback, to let us know
what had caused the delay.
You wanted to know how we were
dressed, Mr. Evans wore a black cloth
suit, except vest, which was white
moreen , antique silk, low quarteeed
shoes with white socks and gloves
and a necktie of white silk with pale
pink strpes.
My dress was white swiss with a full
skirt, low neck, angel sleeves and a
white sash. I had white kid slippers
and gloves, and a white veil held with
a little wreath of rosebuds.
The names mentioned in Sarah
Elizabeth's story are famiiar names
in the early history of the county.
Dick SIMMONS who was dispatched
to tell why the goom was late for the
wedding, owned and operated the
Mud River ferry at one time. His wife
Nancy LUCE, was the daughter of
William LUCE, who owned all the
land around Skilesville in 1800.
This I have written is not in order
I have skipped from one page
to another. And of course I have
added these parts because they
parts are my of my family.

Luce Family and their neigh-bor's.
You have to wonder is this is also
a mis-print. Look at the Jonathon
Luce , it says he is 5mo and has
$400. I believe this is the husband
of Isabella Matterson and they were
married in 1848.
Note: See above date
Note: Who are the Walters family ?
Are they relatives of Isabella ?
If you know let me know, I am
curious.
