Bryan Station (0-0) vs. Paul Laurence Dunbar (0-0) August 25, 2000

Last year Bryan Station defeated Dunbar by a score of 74-46 but neither coach is predicting a repeat of last year's offensive fireworks.  Dunbar returns QB Chip Franklin who passed for 3174 yards and 39 touchdowns, but Coach Mike Meighan says they have placed special emphasis on defense during practice. Bryan Station Coach John Nochta is very excited about his returning defense. Bryan Station's offense will be led by super running back Eric Shelton who ran for 2500 yards last year.  However they will have to replace their trigger man QB J.T. Haskins who flawlessly directed their high octane offense last year.

What a difference a year makes.  Dunbar defeated Bryan Station by a score of 34-22 before a large crowd and a television audience.  Dunbar utilized the arm of Chip Franklin, the legs of Corey Dunn, and an opportunistic defense led by Jacob Koch that forced five turnovers, to ring up the upset.

Dunbar took the lead on a 40 yard pass from Franklin to Dunn, but Bryan Station re-captured the lead seconds later on a blazing 80 yard kickoff return by Robert Haskins.  Bryan Station held a 22-20 lead at halftime but were shut down in the second half as Dunbar scored twice on Corey Dunn's TD runs of 2 and 5 yards. Bryan Station could never get their offense on track as a result of a swarming Dunbar defense and the injury of two of their quarterbacks.

Dunbar was led tonight by Chip Franklin who passed for 203 yards and three touchdowns on 16 of 30 passes completed.  Corey Dunn rushed for 98 yards on 24 carries with two touchdowns.  He also grabbed four passes for 80 yards and a touchdown.

The only offense Bryan Station could mount tonight was by the "E-train" Eric Shelton who tallied 201 yards and one score on 22 carries.
