Woodford County (3-0) vs. West Jessamine (3-0) September 7, 2001

Coach Dan Cassity's Woodford County Yellowjacket squad finished 2-8 last year but the 40 freshmen and sophomores who played varsity football gained valuable experience.  RB Damarr Clark has led Woodford County to a 3-0 start this year.  Coach Wes Johnson's West Jessamine Colts also come into tonight's contest with a 3-0 record.  The balanced West Jessamine offense has been led by QB Nate Johnson through the air and the ground game of FB Wes Coker and HB Montez Graves

West Jessamine used a balanced offense and tightened their defense in the second half to defeat Woodford County by a score of 33-21.  The score was tied 21-21 at the half-- a half that was highlighted by plenty of offense.  Woodford County was led in the first half by speedy RB Damarr Clark who had two long distance TD runs of 71 and 65 yards.  West Jessamine countered through the air with QB Nate Johnson throwing two scoring strikes to SE Ben Spann.

West Jessamine tightened up their defense in the second half and Nate Johnson hooked up with Ben Spann for a 33 yard TD to give the Johnson-Spann combination three TDs for the night.  The Colts also got excellent ground support from Wes Coker and Montez GravesNate Johnson completed 15 of 20 passes for 192 yards and three TD passes.  Ben Spann had nine receptions for 116 yards and three TD receptions.  FB Wes Coker carried the ball 18 times for 170 yards and HB Montez Graves carried 13 times for 92 yards and two touchdowns.  Woodford County was led by Damarr Clark who rushed for 240 yards on 18 carries.
