Louisville Male (3-0) vs. Lexington Catholic (2-0) September 13, 2002

Louisville Male coach Bob Redman has the luxury of building his offense around all-everything QB 6-3 228 pound Sr. Michael BushBush can pass, run, and will also line up as a receiver at times.  He has completed 60 percent of his passes for 489 yards and has thrown five touchdown passes this season.  Bush has also carried the ball 19 times for 123 yards.  The Bulldog offense has actually been led by RB Sergio Spencer, who has rushed for 390 yards and eight touchdowns.  He has also caught 11 passes for 137 yards and three touchdowns.

Lexington Catholic, coached by Bob Sphire, has been led by Sr. QB Jacob DossDoss has completed 28 of 39 passes for 469 yards and four touchdowns passes in Catholic's two victories this season.  Doss has two speedy receivers in John Logan and Matt Beavin who are always capable of making the big play.  The Knights stunned Male 38-33 last season in a game that was interrupted two hours by rain and lightning.

Michael Bush's game lived up to his sizeable reputation as he tallied 347 total yards on offense to lead Male to a 35-21 victory over Lexington Catholic.  The opening quarter delighted the overflow crowd at Joseph K. Ford Stadium with the points coming fast and furious.  Male opened up the scoring as Sergio Spencer scored on a five yard run and the kick was good.  Catholic tied the game at 7-7 as speedy John Logan took a short pass from Jacob Doss and exploded down the sideline for a 66 yard touchdown.  Male regained the lead on an 18 yard run by Travis Watters.  Catholic again knotted the score as Matt Beavin caught a short pass from Doss and raced 80 yards for the score.  Michael Bush put Male ahead 21-14 as he scored on a 70 yard TD run on a quarterback keeper.  The score remained 21-14 as neither team cracked the scoring column in the second quarter.

One of the key plays of the game occurred early in the third quarter.  Catholic held on defense and Male was forced to punt the ball.  The Knights' returner dropped the kick and Male recovered the ball over the objections of the Catholic coaching staff who thought the receiver was the victim of interference.  The call stood and two plays later Bush threw a 33 yard pass to Michael Middleton for a TD.  Jacob Doss threw a 7 yard pass to John Logan to cut the Male lead to 28-21.  Male added an insurance TD in the final period on a Bush 8 yard TD pass to Bryant Beck

Male was led tonight by Michael Bush who carried the ball 15 times for 189 yards and a score.  He also completed 6 of 13 passes for 72 yards and two touchdown passes.  Bush also found time to catch three passes for 59 yards.  He also added 27 yards on return yardage.  Sergio Spencer carried the ball 27 times for 148 yards and a score.  Male held a 496-298 edge in total offense.

Lexington Catholic was led by Jacob Doss who completed 5 of 17 passes for 162 yards and three touchdowns.  Doss was under intense pressure most of the evening resulting in him being sacked five times.  He also had several passes dropped or just off the receiver's fingertips.  Matt Beavin caught two passes for 83 yards and a score.  John Logan also caught two passes for 73 yards and two touchdowns.  The ground game was led by Aleks Smith, who carried the ball nine times for 71 yards.  Kevin Lattner led the Knights defense with eight solo tackles and six assisted tackles.
