Lafayette (0-1) vs. West Jessamine (1-0) August 27, 2004

Lafayette rallied from a 14-0 deficit against Eastern in their season opener to fall by a 14-12 score.  QB Jered Patrick completed 25 of 42 passes for 322 yards and a TD pass in his first start as the Lafayette starting QB.  West Jessamine opened their season with a 16-13 victory over Ryle as Eric Coker and Eli Darby both rushed for over 100 yards.

Lafayette scored on a four yard run by Tony Rawlings and the defense did the rest in a hard-fought 7-0 victory.  Lafayette took advantage of two big plays late in the second quarter to score the only TD of the game.  West Jessamine's QB Eric Coker was flagged for intentional grounding and the ball was marked at the West Jessamine one yard line.  Lafayette's Jared Leedy returned the ensuing punt 26 yards to the West Jessamine 11 yard line.  Rawlings later scored to give Lafayette the lead.  Lafayette's large defensive line helped hold the Colts to 11 yards total offense in the first half.

A very scrappy West Jessamine squad refused to give up and pushed the ball inside the Lafayette 15 twice in the second half but could not reach the end zone.  Lafayette held a 249-96 advantage in total offense.  Lafayette was penalized 10 times for 98 yards while West Jessamine was penalized four times for 26 yards.

Demario Richardson led the Lafayette ground attack with 94 yards on 13 carries while Tony Rawlings added 41 yards and a TD on 12 carries.  Jered Patrick completed eight of 18 passes for 77 yards.  Hunter Petit led Lafayette's defense with five solo and six assisted tackles.  Eric Shaw recorded three solo and four assisted tackles and added an interception return of 42 yards.

Eli Darby led the West Jessamine ground attack with 70 yards on 19 rushing attempts.  Eric Coker completed four of 15 passes for 36 yards but was intercepted twice.  Chase Mullins recorded six solo and one assisted tackle, while Jake Carlson had four solo and five assisted stops.
