Lexington Catholic (4-1) vs. East Jessamine (4-1) October 1, 2004

Lexington Catholic defeated Harrison County 29-28 last week after the Thorobreds failed on a two point conversion attempt in the closing seconds of the game.  QB Justin Burke has passed for 1120 yards this season to lead the high octane Lexington Catholic aerial attack.

East Jessamine is coming off a 26-14 victory over Western Hills and their running game has ground out 1734 yards in their first five games.  The Jaguars will be without the services of tailback Rex Hager, who is out with an injury.  The East Jessamine offense will be led by QB Adam Richey

Lexington Catholic scored the key touchdown out of a punt formation on their way to a 40-24 victory over East Jessamine.  The Jaguars had pulled to within six, 30-24, with approximately five minutes left in the game and their defense had forced Lexington Catholic into a fourth-and-seven situation.  The ball was on the Lexington Catholic 45, but instead of punting the ball, Justin Burke hit Wes Caldwell in the middle of the field and Caldwell turned it into a catch-and-run 55 yard TD.  Burke also hit Caldwell with a two point conversion pass to make the score 38-24 with 4:51 remaining on the clock.

East Jessamine held a 385-371 advantage in total offense and maintained a 30:08-17:52 advantage in clock possession.  East Jessamine was penalized five times for 19 yards while Lexington Catholic was flagged nine times for 66 yards.

Lexington Catholic QB Justin Burke completed 17 of 26 passes for 252 yards with three TDs.  Wes Caldwell caught three passes for 81 yards.  Cornell Burbage had three receptions for 55 yards and David Vicini added 31 yards on four catches.  Brandon Logan led the defense with six solo and 10 assisted tackles.  Matt Walton added eight solo and three assisted stops.

East Jessamine QB/RB Adam Richey put up some fantastic numbers for the Jaguars.  He carried the ball 39 times for 280 yards and one score.  Richey also completed three of five passes for 71 yards and a score with one interception.  Richey returned four kickoffs for 92 yards, giving him a total of 443 all-purpose yards for the evening.  Mike Mallory led the Jaguar defense with eight solo and one assisted tackles, including two tackles for losses of three yards.
