Jeffersontown (1-0) vs. Lafayette (1-0) August 25, 2006

Coach Scott Carmony's Jeffersontown Chargers opened the season with a 19-14 victory over Montgomery County.  The offensive spark was provided by Joshua Brooks, who struck early with an 82 yard kickoff return for a TD on the opening play.  Desean Phelps ensured the victory with a last play interception on the J-town one yard line.

Coach Mike Harmon's Lafayette Generals opened the season with a 21-6 victory over Mason County.  QB Logan Bunch passed for 196 yards and two touchdowns and the ball hawking General defense intercepted five passes.

Jeffersontown opened the scoring with a 50 yard fumble return early in the opening period but Lafayette responded with 28 consecutive points in a 28-14 victory.  Lafayette dominated tonight with a 412-168 advantage in total offense despite losing three fumbles and having a pass intercepted.  Jeffersontown was held to only 11 yards passing and Lafayette held a whopping 8.8-3.3 advantage in average gain per play.  Lafayette was penalized six times for 50 yards while Jeffersontown was flagged six times for 33 yards. 

Corey Layman led the Lafayette ground attack with 102 yards on 14 carries.  Logan Bunch completed 13 of 19 passes for 290 yards with three touchdowns and one interception.  Chris Tune caught three passes for 68 yards and a touchdown.  Tommy Gifford had three receptions for 172 yards with touchdowns of 51 and 61 yards.  Trey Shaftner led the Lafayette defense with three solo and eight assisted tackles.  Zach Currier added two solo and nine assisted tackles.

Carl Hall led the Jeffersontown ground game with 54 yards on 13 carries.  Delton Kirk added 47 yards on two carries.  Brandon Cason completed one of five passes for 11 yards with one interception.  Tak. McIntosh caught one pass for 11 yards.  Desean Phelps led the Charger defense with three solo and five assisted tackles.  Tak. McIntosh added three solo and four assisted tackles.
