Lafayette (4-0) vs. Henry Clay (2-1)

Henry Clay came up with a huge defensive effort tonight in a 35-10 victory over Lafayette.  The victory was extra sweet for the Blue Devils as Lafayette had kept Henry Clay from going 10-0 the last two seasons in regular season play with upset victories.  Tonight the Henry Clay defense forced five turnovers and scored on an interception return and a fumble recovery.  The score was tied 7-7 at halftime but Henry Clay broke open the game in the third quarter with 21 unanswered points.

Henry Clay recorded 18 first downs and 414 yards of total offense.  The Blue Devils were penalized 13 times for 115 yards, lost a fumble, and had a pass intercepted.  Lafayette had 13 first downs and 269 yards of total offense.  The Generals lost two fumbles, and had three passes intercepted. 

Dontey Gay led the Henry Clay ground game with 173 yards on 19 carries.  Ryan Phillippi carried the ball 17 times for 85 yards.  Phillippi completed 14 of 18 passes for 140 yards with two touchdowns and one interception.  Dontey Gay caught seven passes for 39 yards.  Mike Federspiel led the defense with six solo and two assisted tackles and added an interception.  Dontey Gay added five solo and two assisted tackles, and Aaron Boyd chipped in with five solo tackles.

Eric Shaw led Lafayette's ground game with 76 yards and a TD on four carries.  Logan Bunch completed 23 of 42 passes for 190 yards with three interceptions.  Tommy Gifford caught eight passes for 66 yards.  Matt Green led the Lafayette defense with six solo and three assisted tackles.  Eric Shaw added four solo and two assisted tackles and intercepted a pass.
