Henry Clay (3-0) vs. Paul Laurence Dunbar (1-1) September 10, 1999

Henry Clay improved their record to 4-0 with a dominating offense and by taking advantage of Dunbar's miscues. Dunbar gave up two lost fumbles, was intercepted three times and gave up valuable field position on a bad snap on a punt.  Dunbar managed a 14-14 tie at the end of the first quarter due to two long TD receptions by fleet wide receiver Leon Mack.  Henry Clay then scored 47 unanswered points.

Shane Boyd, the QB Mr. Football candidate, was 12 of 19 in the passing department with 346 yards and four touchdown passes.  He also rushed for two touchdowns with 57 yards on 12 carries.  Zia Combs, who has opted to play football at Michigan, caught four passes for 92 yards and two scores.  Chip Franklin led P. L. Dunbar with 9 of 23 passing completions for 214 yards ant two touchdowns.  Mike Berry led the receiving corps with five catches for 57 yards and deep threat Leon Mack had three catches for 152 yards and two long-distance scores.  Jacob Koch, a 6-3 230 pound Junior linebacker, was also a bright spot for Dunbar.

Unfortunately for Dunbar they are struggling defensively and they had the misfortune to play one of the top offenses in the state tonight.  Henry Clay's Shane Boyd has the luxury of operating behind a large offensive line and he has a fine fleet of receivers at his disposal.  Sam Simpson has the Blue Devils on a roll and they should be challenging for the number one spot in the state.
