    Acids and Alkalis
Acids and alkalis can be found in a wide variety of products. Acids include: sulfuric (found in auto batteries and metal cleaners and polishes), Hyrochloric (in metal cleaners and polishes), Nitric (in permanent wave neutralizers), Oxalic (in cleaning solutios, bleach, andfurniture and floor polishes and waxes), Carolic acid or phenol (in antiseptics and disinfectants), Alkalis include: sodium hydroxide/lye (in aquarium products, drain cleaners and some small batteries), Potassium hydroxide (in abrasive cleaners), Sodium carbonate (in dye removers and dishwasher soap), In addition, there are milder alkalis found in ammonia and bleaches. Ingestion of acids or alkalis can cause severe internal irritation as well as external burns. Because these poisons are extreme irritants,
