Circles

This is the second to last of the camp songs between Chris and I. The word was "abuse" as a verb or a noun. I wrote "Circles" reflecting upon how what we live is what we know and what we've experienced. If we have experienced hate, then we will live hate. If we have experienced love and forgiveness, then we will live these things. If we abuse power, then we have learned this somewhere along the way, and sadly, we have not broken the circle; we have simply allowed the cycle to continue.

Verse 1
Throw another log on the fire.
I¡¯m well past done; another couldn¡¯t hurt.
Tell me all about your past, without even speaking a word.
(It¡¯s so clear to see.)

Chorus (1st time only first two lines)
It goes around in circles.
Whatever it is you give, you have received.
And so life becomes the journey of what you do to others
And what is done to you.

Verse 2
You tell me I¡¯ll understand when I am older,
But for now I¡¯ve just got to trust you.
And so you¡¯ve opened the door for your own abuse of power.
(It¡¯s not too hard to see.)

Verse 3
It¡¯s so hard to do what¡¯s right when the current flows upstream.
We can rename the truth all day long
And call what¡¯s black, white, and call what¡¯s wrong, right,
But that doesn¡¯t change the mind of the owner of eternity.
