My Tune of Nostalgia

From the word "seven," this was one of the later songs of the summer songwriting experience. I wrote it in the Americana Old 97's style, which seems to fit the lyrics. This song deals with looking back to our childhood to realize that we probably had more figured out then than many of us do now. We are asked to have faith like children, but we quickly lose this as we grow, and it's unfortunate. Many people choose to live blindly rather than accepting fundamental elements of faith and truth.

Verse 1
When I was a kid everything was fine.
I didn’t have to worry about almost anything.
Playing in dirt piles and in the park;
Jumping off of swings. Riding bikes. Summer swims and summer nights.
Recesses. Picky tastes. Simplicity. PB & J.
Seven hour weekend days of Nintendo games.

Chorus
This is my tune of nostalgia; this I understand.
But there’s something greater to be understood.
What exactly does it mean to have faith just like a child?
Take away the things I know now, replace them with the things I knew
When I was a child.

Verse 2
Now I’ve traded it all in,
Cause it is time to enter a new stage in life.
Deadlines and worried nights
With real problems and strangers with dumb advice.
Digging through paper piles on the job—
Gotta work to stay alive.
Bridge
I know there’s got to be more to this life—
I’m glad I found it, cause otherwise I think it would be hard to survive.
Fear of the Lord keeps a man from staying blind.
So even with all these pressures, I’m sure that I’ll be fine.
