No More

Years ago I was reading my church's monthly bulletin and my pastor mentioned something about America being founded on the theme "No King But King Jesus" (and how today this appears to be a lost founding principle in schools and society in general.) This really upset me, and I was thinking about how my real freedom comes not because I'm an American, but because I am a Christian. It's very difficult to live in a society where 7 out of 10 people claim to be Christians, but 6 out of 10 people then claim that there's no absolute truth. It just doesn't match up. This makes sense because "No King But King Jesus" is an ideal that was intended to be an undisputable foundation, but has today been almost entirely abandoned.

Verse 1
I don’t want to be in this society any more,
When You’re the number one thing that people won’t stand for.
No more.

Verse 2
“No King but King Jesus” was America’s founding theme,
But now they’ve taken that out of our schools no one knows what that means.
No more.
No more.

Chorus
I often wonder why people won’t just accept Your gift—
I guess they’d rather live in pride and die in ignorance
Than to accept that our best deeds are filthy rags to You.
We need Your grace—our goodness will never satisfy You.

Bridge 1
People here think all it takes is church once a week
And a desperate pray when there is something we really need.
To them prayer’s just an excuse for wanting to play God,
Then they’re on their way not caring about Your desire.

Bridge 2
Dear God , I know I’m not perfect, but I know You’ve made me holy.
So I beg You to work in my heart and use me to show Your love.
