Superficiality

This is one of my favorite songs!!!! It also has had a few sets of lyrics because Meng and I wrote one song called "Superficiality" about the world, and when we parted I took the song and he took his lyrics. Once again, I wrote new lyrics. However, I only wrote two verses and one chorus. One day I was in this band and we wanted to perform this song, so I just ended up repeated the first verse as the third. It's been like that ever since then.

What I love about this song is its truth: the world judges you by the outside, but God looks at your heart!!!
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Years after I wrote this song I found the verse to go with it:

People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at a person's thoughts and intentions. -- 1 Samuel 16:7b

Really a good friend of mine named Brandon inspired this song. He went to this Christian retreat in Colorado while he had numerous facial piercings and green and blonde hair. At the end of the week another Christian came up to Brandon and said, "man at the beginning of the week when I looked at you I thought you were some kind of Satan worshipper, but as I got to know you I found out that you really love Jesus."

Verse 1
You think I'm a freak 'cause I've got green hair.
You think I worship the devil 'cause of the clothes I wear.
You think my forms of expression prove my love for God untrue.
Well, God sees past that, so why can't you?

Chorus
It's superficiality.
Why do you judge me?
You don't even know me.
Superficiality.

Verse 2
So what if I put metal through my skin.
That doesn't change, how I feel within.
As long as my motives remain true.
Why should my appearance even bother you?
There's only one reason that comes to me.
And I'm sure when you open your eyes that you will see.
