Who You Are Inside

"Who You Are Inside" is about accepting the positions/roles that God has given us and not desiring to be in someone else's position for covetous reasons. It compares lowly positions of humans to the lowly position that Christ took in His life.

Verse 1
I often wonder what it would be like to be a reflector in the middle of the road.
Just because I was one of millions more, would I feel like the lowest of the low,
Or would I take pride in the job I’d been assigned—
Making sure cars know their boundaries and the right way to go.
Little reflector, half-red, half-yellow or half-white, ignored all day long,
But important you must know.

Chorus 1
There is purpose beyond what you will ever comprehend.
Even if you’re driven on all day long you’re still significant.
A stoplight or a small road sign, just wanting to be something more
Consumes you, focusing on what could have been, not what you were created for.

Verse 2
I often wonder what it would feel like to be the guy who cleans the halls on a rainy day.
Waiting for the people who made them dirty to leave
And listening to what ungrateful people have got to say:
“I’m sure glad I don’t have to do this job! I feel sorry for whoever does and his measly pay.”
Wishing as he does his job that he could be the one who doesn’t have to clean up after others
For just one day.

Chorus 2
There is purpose beyond what you will ever comprehend.
Even if you’re pushed around all day long you’re still significant.
A CEO or banker—just wanting to be something more
Consumes you so you can’t see a title is not what you were created for.

Bridge
When you’re in this situation how do you find the strength to survive?
The answer is what you are is not who you are, but who you are inside.

Verse 3
I often wonder what it did feel like to be and know You were mankind’s only friend
Jesus Christ despised;
Knowing all life long that You had lived just so others would not die;
Living life as God and life as man, humbled, but having the right attitude all the time;
Showing others that the purpose in all things may not be seen,
But it’s there and it’s always divine.
