Why Did You Choose Me to Be Your Own?

The song has always been publically presented as a cover by Karl Nieandersmith, which has been my penname for a few years. Occassionally I'll write stuff under this name. This is the first song that Karl Nieandsmith ever wrote.

I wrote "Why Did You Choose Me to Be Your Own?" one day after I realized just how insane it is that God chose a loser like me to do the awesome things He does. It really just blows my mind that even though I don't deserve the love of God and His forgiveness that He gives it freely. I've learned more and more that Christianity is not about rules because we will always fail when it comes to being good people. What we need to to do is spend some time hanging out with God through prayer and worship and He will change the things that He wants to change. God really has invested a lot in us, and He wants keep improving us. It's just really weird that even though we keep refusing Him, He still uses us in awesome ways.

Verse 1
Dear Lord, I thank You for giving me all these blessings which I do not deserve.
You've surrounded me with love like no other, and for that I can never repay You.

Chorus
Sha La La La
And I only have one question.
Sha la la la
There's just one thing I'd like to know.
Sha la la la
When I am so undeserving
Dear Lord, why did You choose me to be Your own?

Verse 2
Every time I miss a step, You're there to catch me.
(Why would You want Your own creation harmed?)
But even though I know You're there to help me,
I try through pride to get up on my own.

Verse 3
So many times I forget the meaning of what You've done for everyone.
And when I do I hurt not only You, but I hurt the ones You love.
