You're My Bovine

During the summer of 2002 my friend Chris and I worked together at a camp as counselors and musicians. Chris, being a great songwriter looking for some refreshed musical inspiration, presented me with an idea: one of us chooses a word each day, and we both write songs during the next twenty-four hours with that word in our song. It was a great challenge to come up with a song each day while serving as counselors for fourth and fifths graders and the camp musicians. We both met the challenge and ended up with a handful of great songs. This was the very first song. I submitted the word "bovine" (why start things off easily?) This song was the result of the thought that pet-names are silly and bovine should be an equally acceptable pet-name as sweet pea or sugar. I wrote this song particularly for my woman friend.

Verse 1
There’s so many names to call you my darling
To let you know how I care for you.
Like sugar lips and pumpkin bread or sweetie pie or other tasty things
That don’t make too much sense.
(Oh no they don’t make too much sense, no, no, no.)

Verse 2
To change the topic for a sec, my friend and I are away at camp
Just enjoying God’s own artistry.
So we play a game where everyday we have to come up with something to say
In the form of a tune.
That’s right, I’ve got to quickly write this song, and it doesn’t have to be too long,
But a certain word must be in at least one line.
So to let you know that I miss you so, and to let you know that I’m glad your mine
Please take no offense to the pet name I know submit:

Chorus
You’re my bovine. I’m so glad that you’re mine.
Woman, you so fine. You’re my bovine.

Bridge
All these pet names are derived from confections,
But I now submit my objections.
Sugar lips or pumpkin bread simply won’t suffice.
You’re the meat, the steak that makes living extra nice.
So if you really don’t like this song I apologize--

Outro
There’s so many names to call you my darling
To let you know how I care for you.
