The above picture of Robert Andrew and Julia Robbins Gladden's family was taken about 1903. It was taken before the last two daughters (Chloie and Ola) were born.

I have not been able to find where Robert and Julia married. I have been told it was in New Boston, Texas. The court house in Bowie County burned just a few short years after their marriage. Robert and Julia raised their family on the lane to Manfred out of Caddo Gap, Montgomery County, AR. They did move by wagon to Ellis County, TX for a short time during the 1890s. They have an eight year old daughter buried near Palmer in Ellis County, Texas. Julia was taken to visit the cemetery after some 53 years and she walked to the grave of her child.
We do not know much about the Gladden line of my husbands family that did not make the move to Arkansas back in the 1850s. I have been told that I assumed one to many fathers to be a Joseph in my writtings below. That indeed the Moses mentioned below as being a brother to our Joseph A Gladden who was born in 1807/08 is actually the father. If this is correct, our Joseph's mother was probably Sarah Hambleton. Perhaps one day I will discover some proof. I would be happy to hear from any Gladdens or Gladden descendants. I am always happy to exchange my research.
Joseph A “Joe” Gladden was born in 1807 or 1808 in NC. I believe he married Catherine last name unknown in Lincoln Co, NC around 1826. Joseph was the father of Robert E. “Bob” Gladden, grandfather of Robert Andrew Gladden and the great grandfather of Chloie Lee Gladden Pettitt, my late mother-in-law.
In 1790, I find a Joseph Gladden (born 1745-1750) and family in the Morgan District of NC. There are four males sixteen years and up, three males under sixteen years and two females. I believe the male children are Moses, Aaron, Samuel, and Joseph

By 1880, Joseph A (1808) is dead and I believe his wife Mirah to be the Mirna, wife of Peter Pettitt. (census page 47). Her maiden name is Brown. In a Pettitt family bible the name is written Mima Elmina. Peter Pettitt’s stepdaughter, Sally Dooley (age 20) is living with them . I believe I have proved to my own satisfaction that Sally was Mima's daughter by her first marriage to Marion Dooley.
