A Tribute to Buddy
Sidney Gordon Gill
January 7, 1952~May 18, 1999
Buddy was more than just a friend, when someone was in need, he was the first one there. I met him 16 years ago, after I married Mike, they had been friends since they were teenagers. We didn't make a good impression on each other the first time we met. But we over came that, and our first meeting gave us many laughs over the years.
Mike and I introduce Buddy to my friend Debbie, they were later married. I was there, I was the best man. We joked over the years about how when he got married, his bestman was a woman. Buddy and Debbie had 12 years together.
Buddy was Uncle Buddy or Uncle Buzzard to our kids. He was so good to him and they loved him, they thought he was sooooo funny. They couldn’t have asked for a better Uncle.
When we lost Shane, Buddy was sick, but he was there for us. I remember long phone calls with tears and laughter as we talked about Shane and shared memories. I don't think Buddy ever accepted Shane's death. It was just too unreal for him. So many times he would say, "Why didn't God take me, I'm sick, Shane had his whole life in front of him." He would tell me if he could trade places with Shane and give my son back to me, he would do it.
Over the years, we shared a lot, good times, bad times and tears and laughter. In all the years I have known Buddy, I have never heard anyone say one thing bad about him. For a few years now, Buddy's health has been bad due to kidney problems and diabetes. Even though he was sick, I just didn't think we would lose him. It is so hard for me to believe Buddy is gone.
I will miss his sense of humor, his laugh, the special smile he had, our talks and yes Bud, I’ll miss your lectures.....
