~Meet Peggy~
My name is Peggy Swain Martin. I live in Walker, Louisiana. I am a dispatcher for the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office. I enjoy gardening, collecting porcelain dolls, and antique shopping.
I have 2 children. My son, Shane, is 30 years old and also lives here in Walker. He has a daughter, Angell, who is 6 years old. She is my only grandchild and I enjoy every minute I get to spend with her.
My daughter, Shelley, is an Angel now. She went to Heaven six weeks before her 19th birthday, on September 28, 1998.
I don't remember much about the first few months after Shelley's accident, but about six months later, a friend sent me the link to My Mother is a Survivor. It was then that I realized how many other mothers were living the same terrible nightmare.
My Mother is a Survivor has been a great lifeline for me as I am sure it has been for hundreds of other parents. I will always be greatful for the love and support it has offered to all of us.
Peggy S. Martin ~Shelley's Mom forever~
I would like to share with you this poem that my dear friend Kaye wrote for me.
She wrote it one day after a conversation we had about how much I long to know that my daughter is safe, and don't need me to take care of her.
The poem says it all....
A Peace of Mind
I sat at your graveside today,
and felt your presence there.
I signed the journal in your box.
And listened to windchimes soothe the air.
And although no one sat with me,
I knew I wasn't alone.
Your spirit seemed to cover me
as windchimes sang with angelic tone.
As I sat I felt I could talk to you.
And I knew that you could hear.
With a broken heart I cried with you,
as you wiped away each tear.
"What were you thinking that day?" I asked.
"Why did you leave me behind?"
"Please heal this broken heart for me.
Oh, give me peace of mind."
How can I know your heart is happy?
Oh, I need to be given a sign.
Later I turned away & heard someone say...
"Here Mom, take a "piece" of mine."
With Love,
~Kaye Des'Ormeaux~
