CUNNINGHAM WINS THE GOURDIE LEAGUE

Aah, but which one you wonder. Norman Cunningham played Boyd tonight needing a point to pip namesake Dave to the league title. At the end of a season in which 4 teams were in contention for much of the time, until first Khoo fell by the wayside and then Boyd dropped off the pace, it all came down to the last game. Boyd staretd well with a 3 at the first, but Norman immediately got 2 back at the next. Norman dominated the game from there and edged in front5-4 at the 5th end. Boyd's last stone hit and lie to go level at the 6th was countered at the 7th by Norman's perfect draw to the 4 foot for shot and a 6-5 lead going into the last. With lots of guards out front Norman's rink managed to promote a shot to lie one with only the skips stones to play. After Norman guarded well, Boyd found a 4 stone raised double take out (you had to see it to really understand what that means)and leave himself lying 3, stil holding the hammer. Norman, faced with defeat but knowing that peels would win the league, played a good draw that came to rest in second shot position, well guarded. Boyd however played the perfect draw shot to count 2, win the match, and hand the league title to Dave Cunningham. A fanatastic end to the league played in front of a record crowd of 6 people.
