"Giles, can I please not patrol tonight? I have to study for my French exam. It's like a life or death situation." Buffy was trying her hardest to get Giles to say yes, but it hadn't worked yet. Her life would be over if she didn't pass this exam. Her mother would kill her, and her teacher would give her a big fat F.

"No, Buffy. A life or death situation could occur tonight if you don't patrol." Giles needed Buffy to patrol since she had failed to do so in the last two nights.

"Giles, Please. I promise I won't ask ever again." Man, Giles was really making her work for her night off. Of course, honesty compelled her to admit to herself that she actually had chance of keeping that promise.

"Fine. If you ask ever again, I will not permit it."

"Sure, what ever you say. I better go before I am late to Mrs. Finnely's class. You know she doesn't like you too much."

Giles knew that all too well since Buffy always said she was late on account of him.

" Bye." Buffy flew out the door to the library before Giles could change his mind. She really needed to do well on this French exam.

Buffy was so lost in her thoughts that she didn't see the young man in her path, and the two collided, ending up on the floor. Buffy's books scattered all over the hall. At least the halls were empty, but she was going to be late to Mrs. Finnely's class one more time.

Buffy looked at the young mad who had gotten in her way. She found herself staring into the bluest eyes she had ever seen, and the face that went with them wasn't bad either. He was definitely cute, not gorgeous like Angel...but he had potential.

He smiled at her and flashed his pearly white teeth. Man, this girl was a babe with long blond hair and a killer smile. She was like all those girls in the magazines, beautiful and probably unattainable. "Here, let me help you with all these books," he offered, picking them up and handing them to her.

"I have to go. I am sorry about running into you, but I am late for class," Buffy said before she ran off, leaving the young man by himself. Buffy was half-way down the corridor when she realized the guy was following her.

She reached Mrs. Finnely's classroom just as the young man caught up to her.

He opened the door for her, waving for her to enter. I can't believe my luck, he thought to himself, this girl is going to be in my class.

He must be new and he's coming in here. I can't believe my luck, Buffy thought to herself as she ran to her seat.

"Buffy, I...." Mrs. Finnely stopped in mid-scold as she noticed the young man. "Can I help you?"

"Yeah, I'm new," he answered, still distracted by the girl. So her name was Buffy; not a normal name, but he liked it. And she seemed to be in trouble so he thought he might help her out. "Buffy was just helping me find this room."

"Well, it looks like you can join Buffy in detention today then, ummm...?" Mrs. Finnely was sick of Buffy coming in late and disrupting her class. Unfortunately, the young man had picked the wrong day to join her class.

"It's Graham Miller."

"Graham, I hope you enjoy you stay with Ms. Summers in detention. And Ms. Summers, I hope you aren't late anymore," Mrs. Finnely said smugly.

"But, Mrs. Finnely, I..." Buffy started to explain, but the teacher just glared at her. "Oh, never mind."

As Graham sat in the empty seat next to Xander, Buffy gave him a death glare. She was steaming with anger because she didn't need this right now, not on top of everything else. Maybe this boy was going to be nothing but trouble with a capital T.

After Mrs. Finnley dismissed the class, Graham went up to Buffy. He could see the anger in her eyes. Maybe talking to her wasn't such a good idea, right now, but he had to try. "I am so sorry."

"You should be." Buffy walked right past him without a second look.

Graham watched her as she went up to a girl with red hair. He could just barely hear Buffy say that he was trouble to the red-head. So Buffy Summers thought he was trouble. Maybe, he was.

Sunnydale always threw monsters at Buffy, but the latest wasn't something she could actually kill. His name was Graham Miller and he just landed Buffy in detention. Detention was one place she knew all too well. Her last school was detention city. She had tried to stay out of detention in Sunnydale, but Graham had ruined that for her. The next hour was going to be hell.

Buffy took a deep breath as she walked into the detention room.

Ms. Higgins was already there waiting for her, and so was Graham. "Good, both of you are here. I have to do some copy work so I am going to leave you alone. I expect you to behave yourselves."

"You mean, I have to be alone here with *him*?" Buffy complained, giving Graham the evil eye. Boy, this should be fun, Buffy thought to herself sarcastically. An hour alone with him.

"Yes, Buffy. Now, sit down. I should be back soon." Ms. Higgins walked out, shutting the door.

Buffy decided that she better say something before Graham started to talk to her. "Don't even think of talking to me. I'd rather eat a frog than talk to you." Buffy knew she was being childish, but she didn't care. She could be childish if she wanted to.

Graham just smiled at her. Just who did she think she was, the princess of Sunnydale? "Whatever, sweetheart."

How dared he call her sweetheart! I am so not going to be sweet to him. "Don't call me that. I rather be anywhere but here with you." She wished she could just disappear from the face of the earth. The earth that Graham Miller inhabited.

Graham looked out the window and start to chuckle. It was raining and there was not a single cloud in the sky. He knew that his laugh would unnerve Buffy.

"What? What is it?" Buffy had to know what he was laughing at. This boy made her feel like an awkward child, and she didn't like that feeling at all.

Graham didn't really want to talk to Princess Buffy, but no one else was there to see the rain. "Look, there isn't a cloud in the sky...."

"And it's raining." Buffy finished Graham's sentence and it felt so natural. Well, at least he wasn't laughing at her.

Graham got up and walked over to the door.

"Where do you think you are going?" Buffy somehow knew the answer even as she asked. He was going to play in the rain.

"And why would I tell you? So you can go tattle on me? That's real mature," Graham snapped at Buffy. She was annoying him. Man, for such a pretty girl, she sure could get on his nerves.

"No. I want to go play in the rain with you."

Graham was surprised at her words. Who knew that Buffy the Princess actually had a sense of adventure and fun inside that prickly exterior?

"Well, lets go, ice Princess. I hope you don't melt." No one had ever called Buffy an ice princess before. Maybe she was being a little harsh to Graham, Buffy thought as she followed Graham.

When Graham reached the door, he ran out like a little kid in a candy store.

Buffy laughed to herself, watching him trying to catch the raindrops in his mouth. She slowly stepped out into the rain, a little hesitant.

Graham saw her walking out very slowly. At the rate Buffy was going, she would never get in the rain. Graham ran up to her and pulled her hand tugging her out.

"No. Stop it!" Buffy squealed in protest, but once she felt the raindrops she laughed in delight. This was a good idea, Buffy thought to herself. At least, Graham and she weren't fighting.

"This is so strange," Graham said to himself, not really expecting Buffy to answer him.

"Sunnydale is where the strange happens. Trust me, I know better than anyone." Buffy left out the part about the demons since he really didn't need to know about that.

Graham looked at her and she could feel her cheeks start to flush. So she did what any normal girl would do. She started to spin in the rain.

Graham watched Buffy spin around and around. She never seemed to get dizzy.

Just when he least expected it, she came crashing into him. He fell on top of her. As he sat up, he expected to get the wrath of Buffy, but she just giggled. Graham joined in. Anyone watching at that moment would have thought that these two were in love, the way they smiled at each other.

Graham got up and extended his hand to Buffy. "My lady, your carriage awaits."

Buffy smiled at him, thinking that he wasn't so bad after all... especially right now with his shirt soaked. Buffy could see his muscles through the shirt, and he wasn't lacking any. Man, he was hot with a capital H, which was big trouble.

Graham pulled Buffy up forcefully, causing Buffy to fall into his chest. Graham looked down into Buffy's eyes. Right now, there was no place he'd rather be, and he knew she felt the same way.

"Graham, I think I'm melting."

Graham could hardly believe his ears. His ice princess was melting. He just smiled at her.

Before he could answer her, Ms. Higgins came out, yelling and screaming at them.

Under his breath, just loud enough for Buffy to hear, Graham said, "I think we just got into more trouble."

Buffy agreed silently but she was thinking of a different kind of trouble than Ms. Higgins. Graham was turning out to be a complication that her heart didn't need right now.
