A Night at the Golden Apple
By: Nicole

Alex could feel someone’s eyes on him, but he just didn’t know who’s eyes they were. It was late , and he didn’t want nor need another wedgie today. Although, he had only gotten two wedgies compared to his normal five. Things were definitely looking up for Alexander Harris, and it was all because of Buffy. Alex had been invited to go to the only hang-out in town, The Golden Apple. It was the place where anyone who was anyone hung out. And guess who had asked him to come. None other than Riley Finn, himself. Alex knew it had been a pity ask for Buffy, but Alex could care less. Alex was where he had always wanted to be.

Alex had daydreams about his entrance into The Golden Apple. Now, he hadn’t made the entrance that he always wanted to make. Cordy on his arm was still a bit of a stretch. But as a consolation prize, Alex was sitting with the prettiest girl in the joint, Buffy. Except for those eyes watching him, Alex was on cloud Nine, and he never wanted to come down.

Buffy was too busy watching Riley with some little hoochie to notice anyone else in the club. As she watched the little freshmen make a fool of herself over Riley, a blonde was watching both her and Alex.

Darla could see that the girl with the dork was the one in the woods. As she walked over to a football player type with groupies and all, Darla realized it was the hunky guy in the woods with the other chic. Darla wasn’t ready to go after Muscles and Bimbo. She focus her attention to the dork. This should be like taking candy from a baby, Darla thought to herself.

Alex was thinking about going home when a hand tapped his shoulder. Alex was preparing himself for another round of wedgies when he came face to face with a pretty girl with a killer smile. Too bad Alex didn’t know how deadly that smile could be.

Riley had been wanting to had wanted to ditch this freshmen chic and ask Buffy to dance, but he was afraid that Buffy would say ‘no’. Buffy was nothing like the other girls that threw themselves at him. Buffy wasn’t the usual airhead that he dated so he didn’t know iff he even stood a chance. Buffy simply made Riley very nervous.

While the freshmen went off to talk to one of her friends, Riley decides to ask Buffy to dance. Here goes nothing, Riley thought to himself. “Buffy, would you like to dance with me?”

“We’re not like brother and sister so I guess it can be arranged.” Bufy grabbed Riley’s hand before he could process what she had said. Stupid, stupid thing to say, Buffy thought to herself.

Buffy was dancing with Riley so she should have been in heaven. It wasn’t everyday you got to dance with the man of your dreams. But something was off, and Buffy couldn’t figure out what it was.

She could barely see Alex over Riley’s shoulder. Next time, she was going to have to wear higher heels. Alex was no longer alone. All Buffy could see was blonde hair.

It was obvious to Buffy that Alex was the social outcast of Huxley, but there was something in him that Buffy could see. Maybe it was her Slayer sense or the fact that he had been friendly to her. There was much more to Alexander Harris than anybody knew. Now, if only Buffy could get Alex to come out of that shell.

Buffy was happy to see Alex having a good time so she just enjoyed her dance with Riley. When the song finished, Buffy went back to reality. She had to tell herself that Riley was not her husband. And that she would not be having mad passionate sex when they got home. Oh, it was so nice to dream. Buffy thanked Riley and started to walk back to the table where Alex had been. But Riley grabbed her hand whirling her around to face him.

Every muscle in Buffy’s body tensed up. From the look on Riley’s face, he was either going to confess his undying love or have mad passioned sex with Buffy. And the two of them stood there until Riley finally let go of Buffy’s hand.

“Umm….sorry, Buffy.” And with those words Riley disappeared into the crowd.

Buffy was too shaken to go after Riley so she walked back to the table. Unfortantly, Alex wasn’t at the table. Where could he be? Buffy looked around the club, but all signs of Alex had vanished. Alex just wouldn’t leave without saying good-bye. Would he?

Buffy had a bad feeling about Alex disappearing so she walked out of the club. Much to her dismay, there were no signs of Alex on the quiet street. Buffy started to walk back into The Golden Apple when something pulled her back out. That second hesitation caused Buffy to hear some noise coming from a street parallel to the Golden Apple.

Buffy couldn’t believe what she was seeing. A vampire had Alex pinned to the ground. It was time for Buffy to reveal her secret identity. “Get off of him.”

Both the vampire and Alex looked up towards Buffy. Darla wasn’t in the mood for her meal to be interrupted. It was the little bimbo to save the day. At least, Darla could kill two birds with one stone. “And you think that you’re going to stop me?”

“Yes.”

It was the way that she said yes that made Darla realize that this girl wasn’t a bimbo after all. “And just how do you plan to stop me?”

“My mother always taught me to be prepared. Or maybe that was the Girl Scouts. Anyways, a stake thought the hear should do it.” Buffy was staring at the vampire in the woods. Atleast, she knew the other vampire wouldn’t be jumping out at her since he was a pile of dust.

“Where’s your friend? Did you kill him or did the sun shine on him?”

“Slayer.” Darla didn’t know the Slayer lived in this neck of the woods. Thye Master was going to have a fit. The Slayer could ruin everything that was planned. “Shouldn’t you be on the Hellmouth?”

“Are we going to fight or just chat?” Buffy was itching to kill this vampire, but she needed answers to all the questions she had. Like, what was a Hellmouth?

Darla looked down at the dork. It looked like she wasn’t going to get a snack after all. “Sounds fun. I would love to kick your ass. But it looke like we’re going to have to play another day. I can hear my mother calling.” Darla ran at Buffy and pushed her to the ground.

Buffy looked at Alex on the ground then to the corner where Darla had disappeared around. There would be time to find her later. Right now, Buffy needed to help her friend.

Buffy bent down to inspect Alex’s neck. The blond vampire hadn’t even started to feed yet. Buffy had arrived just in time. However, Alex was just staring up at Buffy not moving from fright. Going after that vampire would have been easier than dealing with Alex. She might not have a friend in Alex after tonight.

Buffy held out her hand to help Alex up, but he refused it and got up by himself. He had no idea what was going on here. All he knew was that chick was a vampire. Those comic books did come in handy. However, Alex hadn’t expected it to be like this.

Alex was staring at Buffy with a sheer look of fright. What would a vampire run from? Only something much worse. Buffy could see that Alex was in shock, and he probably no longer trusted her. It wasn’t everyday that you learn monsters are real. Buffy could only hope that Alex was going to take this news in a good way. Her motives were selfish, but who could blame her? Buffy wasn’t in the mood to be burned at the stake.

“Do you read comic books too?” Alex knew Buffy would never understand him in a million years, but he just needed to make a joke. “No..I, ummm, Alex. What you saw here…. was….a. This is so hard.” Buffy knew the speech, but she just couldn’t seem to get any of the words out.

“That chick was a vampire and I can’t tell a soul.” Alex knew where she was going, and he wasn’t abut to tell a soul. No one in their right mind would believe him. And he got the feeling that Buffy wasn’t about to tell anyone nor agree to what she had just seen.

“I guess it wasn’t that hard.” Buffy kicked at a can that was lying by her feet. Now what was she going to do.

“I won’t tell anyone. Somehow, I don’t think anyone would believe me.” Alex could see the relief on Buffy’s face.. Alex thought back to when Buffy had told him he hadn’t seen anything. Well, Alex was beginning to believe her.

The moment Buffy walked into Huxley, she had brought something with her. And Alex couldn’t decide wheter it was bad or good. Alex hoped that it was good, for his sake.

“I have just one question. What’s a Slayer?”

Buffy jumped up and hugged Alex. He was taking this rather well. “We’ll have time for that later. I promise. Wanna dance?”

“Let’s go.” Alex knew Buffy would answer all his questions, but for now, he was content not knowing. At least, he could get one more night of sleep without knowing what was really out there.
