Chapter 14
Jay gasped as he saw Alison lying in her bed, wires coming out everywhere. As he got closer he noticed how bruised her face was, it was almost as if he couldn’t recognize her. He took her tiny hand gently, and shivered as he realized how cold it was. Almost like she was dead. He scolded himself quickly for even thinking that.
“Aly,” he whispered, “I don’t know if you can hear me, but I’ll talk anyways. I’m here with you, like I promised, I’ll always be here for you. Alison, can you please find the strength to wake up…I need you, more than you can imagine. I’ve never loved anybody as passionately or deeply as I love you. Please baby, wake up.” He stared at her face that remained the same, her eyes still closed. She looked so peaceful, almost as if she was dead. Once again he scolded himself for even thinking that.
“Baby,” he whispered again, “Don’t leave me, you are everything to me. You didn’t save me on the beach as a coincidence it was fate. You and I were meant to be together, you can’t give up. You have to fight. For me, for you…” tears started streaming down his face, “I never told you this, but I was scared to fall in love again. I never wanted to fall in love again; I had been hurt so much in the past by people using me. You changed everything for me, you made me see that I can trust and love. You are the one true thing in my life, and now you are lying here… helpless. I feel as helpless as you do Aly, I’m so scared, I can’t lose you…please wake up… Aly, I love you,” he picked her up a little so he was able to put his arms around her and hold her. He cried into her neck, her whole body felt limp. “Please Aly,” he pleaded as he cried, “please wake up, I need you…” The room was silent except for the noise of the machines and Jay’s crying.
“Jay…” he heard a whisper. His eyes went wide as he let go of Aly and placed her head back slowly on her pillow. Her mouth opened slowly as she once again whispered, almost inaudible, his name. “Aly,” he cried as he grabbed her hand again, “I’m here, Aly wake up baby, please. I’m here.” She felt her hand squeeze his, tears of joy started to replace his old ones.
“Jay,” she whispered again as her eyes slowly fluttered open, she stared into the eyes she had grown to trust and love. She felt dazed and disoriented, not to mention the shooting pains up and down her body, but as she stared into Jay’s eyes she felt nothing at all.
“Aly?” he said in pure disbelief, “I was so scared!”
“Why?” she asked quietly as she saw more tears filling Jay’s eyes.
“Why?” he cried, almost wanting to laugh, “I thought I was going to lose the one person I care most about in the world.”
Alison tried to sit up, but found herself too weak. Jason got closer as she put her arms around his neck and pulled him close. “I would never leave you Jay, I love you.”
“When I heard you were hurt I almost passed out I was so worried,” he whispered, “When I saw you lying here, I had never been so scared.”
Alison didn’t know how to respond as she held onto Jason. Although she had been unconcious, she had heard everything he had said. She just grasped on tighter and started to cry.
“Are you crying?” Jay whispered, as he stroked her hair.
“Yes,” she whispered back, “Are you?”
“Yes,” he said as he tightened his grip on the fragile Alison.
“Jay?” she said softly.
“Yeah,” he whispered back.
“Can I stay in your arms forever?” she asked.
“Of course,” he whispered back.
“Do you remember that song you sang to me?” Alison asked.
“Yes,” Jason responded.
“Will you sing it for me?” she whispered.
“Whatever tomorrow brings I’ll be there, I’ll be there with open arms and open eyes. Whatever tomorrow brings I’ll be there, I’ll be there.”
