Chapter 9

Alison, Jason, Max, and Adam spent most of the next week together. Alison knew she would soon have to leave the man she had grown to love so deeply, and it scared her. Neither of them talked about, not wanting to think about the inevitable pain it would cause.

3 days before they were leaving, Alison and Jason had decided to go to a local boardwalk. Jason looked over at Aly who looked like a teenager in her braided pigtails and carrying the large blue teddy bear he had won her.

“You look so cute,” Jason said as they sat on a bench.

“Cute?” Alison asked joked, “In other words I look like a 12 year old?”

Jason laughed as he kissed her on the cheek and helped her stand up, “where to now?” he asked her.

“Do you want to go on the roller coaster again?” Alison asked pointing down the boardwalk to the ride they had already rode 14 times.

“Again?” Jay said teasingly, “Not only do you look like a 12 year old, you act like one too!”

“Hey!” Alison said as she went to slap Jason playfully on the shoulder, but he moved and started to run. “That’s so not cool!” she called after him as she ran after him, “come back here you big jerk!”

Jason stopped and turned around picking Aly off the ground and throwing her over his shoulder, “big jerk huh?” he asked as he started to walk.

“Jay!” she squeaked, hitting him in the butt with her bear, “put me down!”

“Not until you take that back!” he demanded lightheartedly.

“Now who’s acting like a 12 year old?” she asked.

“That’s it!” he said as he started for the ocean, “You’re going for a swim.”

“Jay! No!” she screamed, “I’m sorry, you’re not a jerk!”

“That’s all you needed to say!” he said as he placed her down.

“You’re a huge jerk!” she said as she took off in a run on the beach. Jay following close behind as his he grabbed her around the waist and brought her down to the sand and started tickling her. She started laughing and screaming, “Jay, stop!” she pleaded, tears running down her face. Jay finally stopped and kissed her gently on the lips, and laughed, “that’s what you get for calling me a jerk.”

“I get a kiss?” Alison asked, as she looked up at the sky. Jason laughed as he lied his head down next to hers.

“You know how much I’m going to miss you?” Jason asked as he stared at the sky that was clouding over. Alison didn’t respond. “Aly?” he asked.

“Hmmm?” she asked, she heard him, she just didn’t want to talk about it. She felt a tear form in the corner of her eye.

“I said, I’m going to miss you,” Jay said sitting up and looking into her eyes, “You do realize I love you, and we’re leaving, and I’ll miss you so much!”

“Do we have to do this now?” Alison asked, avoiding his eyes, as more tears formed.

“When are we supposed to do it?” Jason asked annoyed,” the day we leave? Are we supposed to spend our last 3 days together like everything is okay? We’re leaving, going back to are own lives, which are totally different, we won’t see each other again for god knows how long, and you want to pretend differently?”

“It’s easier that way!” Alison claimed, finally looking into Jason’s eyes, that were becoming tearful, “I don’t want to leave you! I love you, the last thing I want to do is leave this, you are everything to me! I don’t want to face leaving you any earlier than I have to.” As soon as the words came out of her mouth, it started raining. The two didn’t even flinch at the rain; they just stared at each other intently.

“Maybe you don’t have to leave me,” Jason whispered.

“What?” Alison asked puzzled.

“Come with me,” Jason pleaded, “Come with me and the WWF! You can travel with us, you’ll be away from Tom, and we’ll be together…”

“I can’t,” Alison said sadly, her heart feeling heavy.

“Why not?” Jason asked perplexed.

“I can’t run away forever!” Alison told him, “I have to go back, face Tom, face everything…”

“So you’d rather go home to your abusive ex-boyfriend then come with me is that it?” Jason said as he stood up angrily, the rain matting his hair to his head.

“That’s not fair Jay!” Alison yelled, “I can’t just drop my life and come with you!”

“No,” Jason said furiously, “You’re just selfish!”

Alison felt like she had been punched in the stomach. “Me?” she gasped, “I’m the one being selfish? You’re the one who wants me to drop my life and come with you! But I’m the one being selfish?”

“If you love me why is it so difficult for you to come with me?” Jay demanded his arms crossed angrily in front of him.

“Why can’t you understand I need to face this?” Alison screamed, as she finally let the tears pour down her face, “Why can’t you support me?”

“Because I don’t agree with you!” Jay yelled, “All I see is you being a selfish little brat, who doesn’t care about anything but herself.”

“I don’t know what I saw in you the first place Jason!” she cried as she threw the wet teddy bear at his chest, “You’re nothing but an asshole, Jay! I truly thought you did love me! But that was all a lie if you can be like this! I’m sorry… I’m sorry for being such an idiot for falling in love with you, and I’m sorry I ever saved your life Jason. Have a nice life, good luck with your wrestling career!” with that she ran off the beach, tripping as she went. Jason watched her as long as he could, until she disappeared through the sheet of rain. Then he did the only thing he could do, he fell to his knees and finally let himself cry.
