Chapter 10

Megan heard the knock on her door and ran to it and quickly opened it. She smiled at seeing Adam wearing a blue dress shirt and pair of khakis.

“Is this nice enough?” he asked with a smile.

“You look great!” Megan exclaimed.

“So do you,” Adam said studying her short black dress, “You look amazing.”

“Thanks,” she smiled, flipping her hair that had taken her an hour to straighten. She pulled on her black leather jacket and grabbed her purse.

“You ready to go?” she asked, taking one more quick look in the mirror.

“Ready,” Adam said, offering her an arm.

“So what did you tell Jay?” Adam asked as they walked down the hall of the hotel.

“The truth,” she said simply.

Adam raised an eyebrow, “You told him the truth?”

“Well kind of,” Megan explained, “I told him I was visiting some friends from college and Adam offered to take me, so I wouldn’t be all alone in the big and scary city. You’re a God to him right now.”

Adam laughed, “And he didn’t insist on taking you?”

“Actually he didn’t,” Megan said with a shrug, “I think he had plans or something, probably hitting some bars with Jeff and Matt.”

“Probably,” Adam agreed as they stepped out the doors of the hotel onto the busy New York streets.

“Meggy!” Rachel squealed hugging a surprised and startled Megan.

“Hi Rachel,” Megan said, faking a smile and hugging the girl.

“Meg, you look fantastic,” the guy standing next to Rachel said giving Megan a hug.

“Thanks, so do you Rob,” she said as she hugged the guy.

“Um, I’d like you guys to meet Adam,” Megan said, “Adam, this is Rachel and Rob.”

“Nice to meet you,” Adam said shaking both Rachel’s and Rob’s hands.

“You too,” they both said.

“We have reservations for 8,” Rob said looking at his watch, “And it’s just about that time, shall we go in?”

“Sure,” Megan said as she and Adam followed them into the restaurant.

“Isn’t this fantastic,” Rachel squealed once they were sitting down, “Robbie takes me to these types of places all the time.”

“That’s good,” Megan said with her fake smile.

“So you two are dating or just friends?” Rob asked.

“Oh, we’re dating,” Adam said with a huge and sickly sweet, but fake, smile, then putting his arm around Megan, “Very happily, 5 months now. Right sweetie?”

“Yeah,” Megan said trying not to laugh.

“Well that’s nice,” Rachel said, “Robbie and me have been dating for almost a year now. Right honey?”

Rob had been staring at Megan, not paying attention to his girlfriend. Megan was quite aware of that and enjoying the idea of him being jealous.

“Robbie!” Rachel squealed.

“What hun?” Rob asked with a smile, pulling his gaze from Megan.

“I was just telling Adam and Meg how we’ve been dating for almost a year,” Rachel said, obviously annoyed she wasn’t getting the attention she wanted from her boyfriend.

“A year,” Rob echoed, “Has it really been that long? I always forget the time, I mean 10 months, a year, whatever.”

“I know how you feel man,” Adam said, trying not to laugh, “except with Megan everyday feels like heaven, you just don’t want it to end. Then you remember that you have the next day together too.”

“That is so romantic,” Rachel sighed. Megan was so close to laughing it hurt.

“Well the best part of our relationship is the sex,” Adam said with a smile. Megan almost spit out her water; she looked over at him with a surprised face.

“That’s right,” Megan said after a moment of silence, she rubbed Adam’s arm, “We go 2, sometimes 3 times a night.” Now Adam was close to laughter.

Rob and Rachel sat with stunned looks on their faces.

“Should we order?” Rob asked a minute later.

“That’d be great, Robbie,” Adam said, mocking Rachel. Megan once again tried to hide a smile as she looked at Rachel, obviously not realizing she had just been made fun of.

“Sure,” Megan said with a smug smile, “Let’s order.”
