Chapter 13

Megan woke up to the sound of knocking on her door.

“Meg, Megan, are you in there?” she heard Jason calling.

Megan bolted up right and looked to her right at the sleeping Adam, she shook his shoulder.

“Adam, Adam, wake up!” she hissed.

“What?” Adam mumbled rolling over and rubbing his eyes.

“Jays here,” she whispered loudly, “Get up.”

“Meg?” Jason called, knocking, “Are you up?”

“Yeah Jay,” she called as she pulled on a pair of sweats and tank top, “Hold on.”

“Get in the bathroom,” Megan said pushing Adam towards the open door. Adam looked panicked, but wanted to laugh. The situation almost seemed comic, him standing in the middle of her hotel room in his boxers, Megan running around like a chicken with her head chopped off.

“Adam, bathroom!” she hissed, looking quickly at herself in the mirror, pulling her tangled hair into a messy ponytail.

“Meg,” Jason called sounding impatient.

“Sorry,” she said running to open the door, “hey.”

“Hi,” he said walking into the room. Megan took a deep breath, nervous that she and Adam would be found out.

“How was last night?” Jason asked sitting on her unmade bed, the bed she and Adam “occupied” last night.

“Last night?” she asked nervously.

“With your friends?” he asked.

“Oh yeah,” she said laughing, “it was fun, it was good to see them.”

“Adam went with you right?” Jason asked standing up.

“Yeah,” Megan stumbled over her words, “Yeah, he and I went to meet them. But you know, not like that. It was nothing, cause we’re such old friends. I mean, yeah he went with me.”

“Ok, have you seen him, he didn’t come back to the room last night,” Jason said, walking around the room. Megan silently gasped as she looked down to see Adam’s shirt and pants and some of her clothes lying in a heap on the floor in front of Jay. What if he noticed them…

“Meg?” Jason asked.

“Huh?” Megan asked, snapping her head up, “Sorry, what’d you say?”

“I asked if you know where Adam is,” Jason said, studying his cousin’s face, she seemed almost nervous, like she was hiding something.

“We got back kinda early,” Megan lied, “I think he went back out, you know Adam. He loves the night life.”

“Oh,” Jason said, Megan looked down at the clothes on the floor. Jason was going to notice them…

“Well that makes sense,” Jay said with a smile, walking to the other side of the room. Megan sighed with relief and walked over to where the clothes were lying, kicking them under the bed while Jay’s back was turned.

“So how was last night?” Megan asked smiling, “You had a date?”

“Yeah,” Jason answered, “it was fun.”

“That’s good,” she said.

“Can I ask you a question?” Jason asked, looking his cousin in the eye.

“A question?” Megan asked, her heart leaping into her throat, “Umm, sure…”

“Is there something going on between you and…” Jason asked.

“No!” Megan interrupted, shocking Jay, “there’s nothing go on between us. Really!”

“Oh, ok good,” Jason said, confused and relieved, “I mean, Jeff is an awesome guy and one of my best friends, but…”

“Oh yeah, Jeff,” Megan said with a relieved laugh, “There’s nothing going on between us, we’re really good friends. That’s it.”

Jason looked confused, “Are you ok Meg?” he asked.

“Fine,” Megan said, “Why?”

“You just seem a little…” Jason said, “Why don’t you go back to sleep, maybe you didn’t get enough sleep.”

“I think I will,” she said with a smile, “I’ll talk to you later. And if I see Adam I’ll tell him you were looking for him, even though… well why would I see him? I mean, he’s your friend and there’s no reason for me to see him…”

Jason gave his cousin a skeptical look, “Yeah, definitely get some more sleep.”

“Ok,” she said nervously, “bye.”

“See ya later Meg,” he said walking out of the room and closing the door behind him.

Megan sighed and flopped onto the bed.

“Come on out Adam,” she called.

“What happened?” he asked emerging from the bathroom, “I couldn’t really hear too well.”

“Don’t worry, I think I covered pretty well,” Megan answered, standing up and walking over to him.

“I think I should go,” Adam said looking around the room, “Umm, where are my clothes?”

Megan laughed, “I kicked them under the bed so Jay wouldn’t see them.”

Adam smiled, “Quick thinking Meg.” He kneeled down searching under the bed, pulling out his wrinkled shirt and pants and quickly pulling them on, Megan watched with a smile.

“What?” he laughed as he looked over at her watching him.

“Nothing, I was just thinking,” she said walking over to him.

“About?” he asked with a smirk.

“Last night,” she said with a small smile.

“That was fun,” he said putting his arms around her waist and pulling her to him and kissing her lips softly.

“Have I changed?” she asked.

“Changed?” Adam questioned.

“Since we were younger,” she said.

“Well, you’re taller,” he said with a smile, “But actually, you are still the same Meg I’ve always known and loved.”

“Love?” she asked with a giggle.

“Well…You know what I mean,” he laughed, kissing her gently again, “I’m going to go. I’ll talk to you later.”

“Yeah,” she said, “Later.”

He kissed her cheek and walked out the door, smiling back. Megan flopped down onto the bed and sighed. Everything she dreamed of happening was. She quickly jumped off the bed and ran out of her room to find Jeff.
