Chapter 14

“Hey man,” Adam said walking into his hotel room.

“Hey,” Jay said turning to him, “Wow, you look like you had a wild night.”

Adam looked in the mirror. Part of his hair was still in a ponytail, the rest frizzy and flying off his head. His clothes were wrinkled and he hadn’t even bothered to button all the buttons on his shirt.

Adam laughed, “I didn’t realize I looked this bad.” He smoothed his hair back into a ponytail.

“So what happened last night?” Jay asked.

“Happened?” Adam asked nervously.

“Meg said you went back out later,” Jason said.

“Oh yeah, I was looking for those damn Hardy brothers, since they’re always out clubbing and I ended up hooking up with this girl,” Adam lied. He studied Jay’s face, could he tell he was lying?

To Adam’s relief Jason seemed to believe him. “That’s cool,” Jason said stroking his chin.

“So how was your date?” Adam asked, quickly changing the subject.

“It was great,” Jason said smiling, “Can I ask you a question?”

“Umm, sure,” Adam said worriedly.

“Was Megan acting weird last night?” Jason asked.

“No,” Adam said shaking his head, “Why do you ask?”

“I went to see her earlier and she seemed really jumpy and was acting really funny,” Jason explained. Adam almost laughed.

“Nope, she was fine last night,” Adam said smiling.

“I’m a little worried about her,” Jay admitted, much to Adam’s surprise.

“Why?” Adam asked startled.

“I just can’t shake the feeling she’s hiding something from me,” Adam explained.

“What could she possibly be hiding from you?”

“I dunno,” Jason shrugged, “But you’ll let me know if anything comes up, right Adam?”

Adam felt guilt wash over him as his best friend said those words. He opened his mouth to say something, but nothing came out. What could he say? Tell him the truth?

“Adam?” Jason asked, studying his friend’s face.

“Yeah, Jay,” Adam answered, feeling even guiltier “Of course I will.”

“You’re the best man,” Jason said with a smile, “I’m gonna go meet Matt and Jeff about the show tonight. You coming?”

“Yeah, let me just take a quick shower,” Adam said heading for the bathroom. He shook his head; the guilt was consuming him. Adam turned on the shower and climbed in, trying to wash away the guilt, but he knew that wouldn’t work. Nothing would.
