Chapter 8
Adam knocked on the door to Megan’s hotel room.
“Come in,” she called quickly. Adam walked in and saw Megan on the phone. She held up her hand signaling that she’d be done in a minute.
“Great… I can’t wait either… mhmmm… see you then… right… bye.” Megan hung up the phone and swallowed hard. Then holding her head in her hands and nodding back and forth.
“Is everything alright?” Adam asked, walking over to her bed and sitting next to her.
“I don’t know what I’m going to do,” she moaned.
“What happened? Who was that?” Adam asked.
“My ex- boyfriend from college,” she sighed.
“And what happened?” Adam asked, fishing for more information.
“He knows I’m traveling with you guys and when you go to New York this weekend for a show he wants to ‘meet up’ with me and go out for dinner,” she explained.
“So, that could be fun,” Adam said with a shrug. Adam knew that was the wrong answer when he got a skeptical look from Megan.
“Or not,” he finished.
“It’s just that we had a rough breakup and then he started dating my best friend Rachel,” Megan told him, “And they’ll both be there and I haven’t had a boyfriend since him, and they’re going to be asking all these questions about my romance life, and what am I going to say… that it’s non existent?”
“Maybe you can bring someone and say they’re you’re boyfriend,” Adam suggested.
“Like who?” she asked miserably. Then her face brightened as she looked at Adam.
“Why are you looking at me like...” he asked, “No Meg, not me, no way!”
“Come on Adam,” she cried, “It’s perfect! I mean we used to date and… Oh Adam please!”
“No Meg,” he said, “No, I can’t pose as your boyfriend.”
Adam looked at Megan’s big eyes and pouty lips.
“No Meg,” he said, looking away, trying to hide a smile.
“Please Adam,” she said getting on her knees and begging him, “Please, please, please!”
“Fine,” he said, finally giving in after staring at her puppy dog eyes.
“You are the best!” she cried, throwing her arms around him.
“I know, I know,” he said, “Now the real reason I came here. Do you know where Jay is?”
“He’s somewhere with Matt and Jeff,” Megan said, lying back on the bed with her nail file and concentrating on her ring finger, “I think they’re working out.”
“Ok thanks,” he said as he started to leave.
“Hey Adam wait,” she called after him.
“Yeah,” he said, turning around. Megan’s eyes looked up from her nail to him, her smile became smug.
“Remember to wear something nice on Friday,” she smirked, then started laughing.
“You’ve always had me tied around your little finger,” Adam said laughing. Megan laughed too, only wishing that that were true.
