chapter three
“Amy?” a voice asked behind her as she stood backstage at the arena as the WWF taped an episode of Raw is War.
Amy turned around at hearing the voice and smiled as she came face to face with the man who she would be her partner for the next few months.
“I wanted to welcome you to WWF,” Essa Rios said with broken English, “my English isn’t so good. I’m sorry.”
Amy smiled at the man with endearment, feeling flattered. He was putting in such an effort to be kind and befriend her, along with greeting her.
“Mucho gusto,” Amy greeted, trying to remember all the Spanish she could from her training in Mexico. She watched as Essa’s lips broke into a wider smile.
“¿Se habla español?” Essa questioned surprised, asking Amy if she spoke Spanish.
“Un poquito,” Amy smiled, saying she spoke a little Spanish.
“And I speak little English,” Essa grinned as he once again spoke his broken English.
“Hola Essa,” Jeff greeted as he and Matt walked up, carrying water bottles as they waited for their match to come up.
Essa nodded at the brothers and smiled as he said something else to Amy quickly in Spanish, then said goodbye to the brothers as she walked off down the hallway for his match.
“Not debuting tonight?” Matt asked, leaning against the wall.
“Not for awhile actually,” Amy replied, looking Matt over quickly, “Essa seems like a really nice guy.”
“He’s an awesome guy,” Matt nodded, “you’re lucky that you’re getting teamed with him. He’ll help you get your feet wet in the WWF.”
“Won’t it be hard since he speaks Spanish?” Jeff asked.
“Hay maneras de superar barreras como eso. Hay más a un idioma que apenas hablándola,” Amy told Jeff in perfect Spanish.
“What?” Jeff asked, looking between a smirking Amy and Matt, who had a small grin on his lips.
“I think she just said that there are ways to overcome things like that, and that there’s more to language then just speaking,” Matt explained to his younger brother, as Amy looked at him surprised.
“You speak Spanish?” Amy asked, “I’m impressed.”
“It’s just what I remember from high school Spanish,” Matt laughed, “you learned Spanish from your training in Mexico, right?”
Amy nodded as put her arms over her head and stretched. Matt watched as her arm muscles tightened under her shirt and her tone stomach peeked out from her shirt. “Sorry,” she apologized as she yawned, “that ride to the arena really tired me out. But thanks for the ride by the way.”
“Anytime Amy,” Jeff said.
“We should probably get ready for the match Jeffro,” Matt said, before quickly looking at Amy.
“Sure,” Jeff replied, “later Ames.”
“Good luck,” she called to the back of the retreating brothers.
“Thanks,” Matt replied over his shoulder as he looked back quickly at Amy.
She crossed her arms and smiled at him as he winked quickly before turning around and following his brother.
Amy pursed her lips and watched until the pair of brothers disappeared behind a corner. She then turned and walked down the hall with her mind on Matt.

Amy tapped her fingers on the table in front of her as she sat in the catering room of the WWF as a few superstars walked in and out, none paying all that much attention to Amy. She looked over at the monitor that was showing the Raw action and watched as Jeff and Matt walked out.
“Is anyone sitting here?” a voice asked behind Amy as she turned around to see the blonde man with a charismatic smile.
“No, sit down,” Amy replied as she watched him sit down, “I’m Amy Dumas by the way.”
“Ahh, the new girl,” the guy laughed, extending his hand, “I’m Adam Copeland.”
“It’s nice to meet you,” Amy smiled, shaking his hand, recognizing him as Edge.
“I recognize you from ECW,” Adam nodded, “I can’t wait to see you get into the ring and rip it up. I think you could really boost the woman’s division. Honestly.”
“Wow, thanks,” Amy replied flattered, “I’m just glad to be here.”
“You’re friends with the Hardys, aren’t you?” Adam asked, his perfect smile still on his lips.
“We worked the Indies together,” Amy explained, “we’re really good friends.”
“I’m heading out to a bar with them and some other friends tonight, you know get some drinks, shoot some pool. I don’t know if they mentioned it yet, but you’re more then welcome to come,” Adam offered.
“They mentioned it, but I’m not sure yet,” Amy replied, “I have to think about it.”
“That’s cool,” Adam said standing up, “but if it means anything, I’d really like if you’d go. It was nice meeting you.”
“You too,” Amy called as he smiled back at her and walked out of the room, leaving her alone again at the table.
She looked up at the screen just in time to see Matt get pinned. She shook her head and clicked her tongue. Maybe she would go tonight, it would give her some time to clear her head and just have some fun time. Plus it would give her some time to get to know Adam, not to mention spend with Matt.
She smiled to herself as she finally decided she would go. Now all she needed to decide on was what to wear to knock the socks off both Adam and Matt.

“Oh man, I met so many people tonight,” Amy exclaimed from the backseat of the rented SUV, “Stone Cold, the Undertaker, oh man, I thought I was going to mark out like an obsessed fan.”
Jeff looked over at Matt in the drivers seat as they both laughed, as Amy continued to talk about the nights events. Jeff watched as Matt glanced in the rear-view mirror, watching Amy as she talked.
“Oh, and then I met this really nice guy Adam,” Amy added, “He mentioned going to the bar tonight, I think I’ll go.”
“Great,” Jeff said, watching as Matt’s smile disappeared.
“So, uh… what’d you think of Adam?” Matt asked awkwardly, coughing at the end of his sentence.
“He was really nice,” Amy answered, folding her legs under her, trying to get comfortable, “and really good looking.”
Matt nodded and focused on the road, not wanting to hear anymore as he felt jealousy stir in him.
“Oh man, I love this song,” Amy said from the backseat, as Jeff leaned forward and the sound of Eddie Vedder’s voice and “Jeremy” played over the radio.
“I didn’t know you liked Pearl Jam,” Matt answered, intrigued as he tapped his finger against the wheel to the beat.
“Love them,” Amy answered grinning, “They’re no Stone Temple Pilots, but they’re amazing.”
“Bite your tongue,” Matt replied, looking back at her quickly, “There is no band like Pearl Jam, never has been, never will be.”
“Someone’s passionate about their music,” Amy laughed, leaning back in the seat, “so we going to the bar tonight or what?”
“It’s your first night, aren’t you tired from everything?” Jeff questioned, looking back at the red head.
“There’s always time for sleep,” Amy answered, making quick eye contact with Matt in the rear view mirror, “Right now, I wanna live it up! Come on y’all, you’re the ones who invited me anyways.”
“Hey, I’m always ready for a party,” Jeff said, “Matt, you in?”
Matt looked at his brother, then at the red head in the backseat before grinning and nodding.
“Yeah, I’m in.”
