Chapter Nine

Matt opened his eyes, sunlight pouring onto his face. It took him a moment to realize where he was and whom he was with. Looking to his left, he smiled as he saw the sleeping redhead.

Matt lay back, stretching, his mind racing. The night before had been such a blur he didn’t even remember how they ended up in bed together, but everything after that was so clear. His lips caressing her neck, her hands running up the small of his back…

“Where does this bring us?” he wondered, looking at Amy, who looked so peaceful as she slept. He couldn’t resist running a finger gently through her tangled red-hair and placing his lips softly on her forehead.

Matt quickly and quietly climbed out of the bed, finding his plaid boxers on the floor, right next to Amy’s black bra and his shirt. He smiled and shook his head, the night before had been nothing but unbelievable.

He walked into the bathroom, shutting the door softly behind him as not to wake Amy. He let the cold water run as he looked into the mirror, his brown, curly hair somehow managed to stay back in it’s ponytail and he didn’t look half bad for just having one of the most passionate nights of his life.

Splashing the cool water on his face, his mind raced. Where did this lead Amy and him? She sacrificed a chance with a great guy, sacrificed a chance with Adam on a gamble with Matt. He sighed, had anything changed? He still looked normal, the sky was still blue, he was still Matthew Moore Hardy, nothing had changed. He shook his head; who was he trying to kid? Everything had changed.

Shutting off the cold tap and walking out of the bathroom he watched as Amy stirred and sat up, stretching out her long, toned arms. She looked to her right and for a moment panicked as she realized she was left alone. Quickly she looked around the room and her gaze met the fully dressed Matt’s, as he stood leaned against the wall, watching Amy with a smile. She returned the smile as he walked over to the bed, sitting next to her and rubbing the thin white sheet over her bare legs.

“Morning,” he said softly, capturing her lips with his.

“Good morning yourself,” she whispered, “I…uh…thought you left.”

Matt shook his head, smiling again as Amy held the light sheet over her upright, naked body.

“No such luck, you can’t get rid of me that easily.”

“Jeff might be worried,” Amy replied as Matt took Amy hands and rubbed his thumb over her palm.

“He’ll be fine,” Matt whispered, bringing Amy’s fingers to his lips and kissing each tip slowly and deliberately.

Amy smiled, but inside she was twisting, confusion overwhelming her. Last night had been nothing short of amazing, but where did that lead them? What were she and Matt now? Was last night a mistake to Matt? Did he regret it? Was she just another lay to him? Her mind raced with questions as her smile disappeared.

“What’s wrong?” Matt questioned, watching her smile fade.

“No, it’s nothing,” Amy lied, standing up, the blanket wrapped around her as she went to a drawer and opened it, pulling out an oversized t-shirt pulling it on over her head.

“Come one Ames, what is it?” Matt asked, walking up behind her and wrapping his arms around her.

“Matt, what was last night?”

“What do you mean?”

“You know what I mean,” she replied, pulling out of his arms and turning around, facing him, “Where do we go from here? What are we?”

“Whoa, Amy, calm down, I really don’t know…”

“Or was last night just a mistake Matt,” Amy asked, tears filling her eyes as Matt looked shocked, “come on, you can tell me if last night was a mistake. If you regret it.”

“Last night was a lot of things,” Matt said softly, using his fingers to tilt her chin up, “but it wasn’t a mistake and I don’t regret it. As far as what we are… I really can’t answer that. I really don’t know.”

Amy nodded, the answer seeming to satisfy her as she reached up and wrapped her arms around Matt’s shoulders, hugging him and burying her face in his shoulder.

“But I do care about you,” Matt whispered into her hair as he hugged her.

“I know you do Matt, I feel the same way.”

“I should probably go make sure Jeff isn’t worried, I’ll call you, ok?”

“Sure, go ahead,” Amy smiled, sitting on the bed, “later.”

“Amy, nothing’s changed between us…has it? Everything’s still the same?”

Amy nodded weakly and forced a smile as Matt quickly kissed the top of her head and raced out the room.

“No, nothing’s changed,” Amy whispered after he left, “Everything has…”
