Chapter 10
Gwen sat up out of bed and looked next to her at a sleeping Jason. She smiled, knowing that was the way it should always be. She quickly ran a hand through her long brown hair, and realized some of the long brown strands stayed entwined in her fingers. She let out a small gasp as she looked at the pillow that was covered in strands of long brown hair. She ran another hand through her hair, and more strands ended up in her finger.
She stared down at the brown hair in her hands and started to cry. Chemo had taken its toll on her, she was sick and weak, and now it took her hair.
“God dammed!” she yelled as she stared at the brown hair in her hands.
“Huh?” Jason asked as he sleepily looked over and sat up, “What happened?”
“Everything!” Gwen cried, “Why does this have to happen to me? What did I do to deserve this?”
“You don’t deserve this Gwen,” Jason said as he stood up and walked over to her and tried to wrap his arms around her. She pushed away.
“It’s not fair!” she screamed, “I’m going to die and never be able to have kids or see Lily go to her prom or teach Derek to drive. It’s not fair. Why should we prolong the agony, I’m going to die- why can’t I just do it now? What kind of God does this to people.”
“Gwen,” Jason said grabbing onto her shoulders and forcing her to look into his eyes, “Look at me. You are NOT going to die, you are going to get through this, WE are going to get through this. You will beat this Gwen, listen to me, you are a strong girl, you can beat this. Trust me Gwen, you can beat this.”
“I’m just so scared,” she cried as she fell into his arms, “I’m so scared.”
“I know you are,” he said as he held onto her, “I’m scared too, but you have me, and I won’t let anything happen to you.” His voice quavered as he said those words, praying to God that nothing would happen to her.
