Chapter 11
“You look really good Gwen,” Jeff Hardy said from his chair.
“You really do,” his brother Matt agreed, “You could never tell you’d been through chemo.”
“Thanks,” Gwen said as she adjusted her brown wig and looked around her living room at everyone, it was a few weeks after she first started losing her hair. She and Jason had decided to have some of his friend’s over for a small engagement party that they never got to have.
“So what’s happening with it now?” Adam asked taking a sip of his beer.
“The doctors said that the tumor has shrunk and everything’s looking really good,” Gwen said happily, “I actually feel really good.”
“So have you guys made a date for the wedding?” Gwen’s friend Erin asked.
“We’re going to wait for the whole cancer thing to be over,” Jason said as he wrapped his arm around her waist. Gwen nodded in agreement.
“Well a toast to the happy couple,” Adam said raising his beer can. The other 7 or 8 guests followed his lead.
“May you be together and happy forever,” Jeff said.
“Forever,” everyone else echoed, clinking their glasses and cans together.
“Forever,” Gwen and Jason whispered as they looked at each other and raised their glasses.

“That was fun,” Jason said climbing into bed later that night.
“Yeah, it was,” Gwen said, “that was a nice toast Adam and Jeff made.”
“They’re great,” Jason said as he leaned his head back tiredly.
“I was thinking about the ‘forever’ part of the speech,” Gwen said.
“What about it?” Jason asked.
“If I die…” Gwen started, but was interrupted by Jay.
“Gwen, you’re not going to die,” he said sternly.
“Jay, just listen,” Gwen said, “If I do die, I want you to move on. I want you to be happy and find someone else. I don’t want you to stop living your life because I’m not with you.”
“Gwen,” he said, “my life is you. You are my whole life, you’re everything to me.”
“Just promise me,” Gwen pleaded, “If something happens to me, if I die, you will move on, find someone else who makes you happy.”
“Gwen, I could never find someone else,” he cried, “You are mine, and I love you. I could never love anyone else.”
“Please Jay,” she begged, “Promise me.”
“Yes Gwen,” he said as tears fell down his cheeks, “I promise.” He stared at her, not knowing what to say, and not able to imagine his life without her.
