Chapter 2
Gwen pulled her car into the driveway of the large, white house and looked at the passenger seat at the sleeping Jason.
“Jessie,” she whispered to the dog in the back, she pointed at Jason’s face. The golden retriever leaned into the front and licked Jason’s face.
“Jessie, you’re killing me here,” he said as he opened his eyes and wiped the dog drool off his face. He looked over at the laughing Gwen, “That was all you wasn’t it?” he asked.
“It was too tempting,” she said as she unbuckled and opened her door, “You ready?”
“Sure,” he said as he climbed out, “Now I’ve got to think of something to get you back even better,” he said as he walked over to her side of the car.
“Do you now?” she asked as she leaned her back against the car and he reached his hands around her back and lowered his lips gently to her lips.
“Jason, Gwen!” she heard a voice yell. She sighed softly as she looked over to see her 12-year-old brother Derek come running over. “Hey, hey, hey,” the excited 12-year-old said excitedly, “Jason, you’ve got to show me some new moves,” he said pulling Jason’s hand.
“I don’t get a hug?” Gwen asked pretending to be hurt.
“You’re my sister,” Derek said barely looking at her, “He’s a wrestler, which makes him cooler, now come on!” He was pulling Jason towards the house and he smiled back at her.
“Don’t hurt him,” she called after them.
“I won’t, I promise,” Jason yelled to her.
“I wasn’t talking about you,” Gwen yelled, “Be easy on him Derek!”
“Got it!” Derek called as Jason laughed. Gwen followed them to the house.
“Hi Jay,” a shy looking Lillian said as she looked up at the tall blond.
“Hey cutie,” Jason said as he was still being pulled by Derek. Gwen saw her sister’s cheeks turn red. She had the biggest crush on him, when Gwen first brought Jason home to her family she thought her brother and sister would have died. Truthfully, she hadn’t even known who he was until they had met and started dating. Her sister turned to her, gave her a wave, and then followed Jason and Derek to the basement, where there was a mat that Jason showed them moves on.
“Hi honey,” her mom said as she walked through the door into the house.
“Hi Mom,” she said as she kissed her mom’s cheek.
“Jay didn’t come?” her mom asked as she cut some vegetables.
“He came,” Gwen said as she started to help her mom, “But Derek and Lil got to him first, and now they’re probably in the basement beating the crap out of each other.”
Her mother laughed, “It’s nice that you have a boyfriend that you can bring home and everyone loves.”
“No kidding,” Gwen said, “When I come here with him I get no time with him.”
“So,” her mother said, “Has their been talk of maybe… furthering the relationship?” Gwen laughed; she knew her mom would bring this up.
“Mom,” Gwen said exasperated, “how many times do I have to tell you, he hasn’t proposed and we’re happy the way we are.”
“What about my grandchildren?” her mother asked, stirring something in a big pot.
“Grandchildren?” Gwen laughed, “You’re 46! You don’t need to be a grandmother, I’m only 24, I don’t need kids yet. Besides, you still have 2 kids!”
“I know,” her mother sighed, “I just think your relationship with Jason is the best thing I’ve ever seen happen to you, I never see you happier than when you’re with him. Your relationship seems perfect, I don’t see what he’s waiting for.”
“No relationship is perfect,” Gwen reminded her mother, “But Jason’s and mine is close. And he’s just waiting for the perfect timing, don’t you worry.” She gave her mom a kiss on the cheek, and bounced out of the room in search of her father.
