Chapter 9

“Wow,” Adam said over the phone, “That’s harsh.”

“I still don’t understand,” Jason said into the receiver, he was explaining to his best friend Adam what happened a week ago with Gwen, “I mean, what did I do wrong? Everything was fine, than she just came out of no where.”

“Have you talked to her since?” Adam asked.

“She’s staying with her family,” he explained, “She won’t return my calls, her mom has. They don’t understand what happened either. Her mom said the chemo’s already making her sick and she’s isolating herself from the whole family.”

“You should come stay with me and Julie,” Adam offered, “A few months in Florida would do you well. You could move here for when we’re not on the road.”

“Thanks, but I don’t want to go so far away,” Jason said.

“Well, what do you have there now?” Adam asked, “Nothing, just think about it Jay, the offer’s always there.”

“Thanks,” Jason said, “I’ll think about it, I’ll see you Saturday.”

“Right,” Adam said, “Bye.”

Jason hung up the phone and looked the apartment that now felt desolate and depressing. There were so many memories in the apartment of Gwen, everywhere he looked reminded him of Gwen. He reached onto the side table and picked up the ring he had given her. He angrily tossed it onto the floor. Maybe she was willing to throw away everything they had away without an explanation, but he wasn’t. He picked up his keys, grabbed the ring off the floor, and quickly hurried out the door.

“Hey Gwen,” Lily said as she knocked on the door to her sisters room, “Can I talk to you?”

“Sure,” Gwen said as she closed the photo album she was looking through. She wiped away the tears that had formed at the corner of her eyes, “What’s up?”

“Gwen, why did you dump Jason,” Lillian asked as she sat next to her sister on the bed.

“Because…” Gwen’s voice couldn’t make out the words.

“Do you still love him?” Lily asked.

Gwen nodded as she wiped under her eyes, “More than anything, I love him so much and I miss him so much. But I love him too much to make him deal with this.”

“What do you mean?” Lily asked confused.

“It’ll be easier for him if we aren’t together,” she explained to her little sister, “He doesn’t have to feel bad about leaving me to go with the WWF and he doesn’t have to give up the WWF for me. It all works out. He gets to move on with his life and further his career, and if something happens to me, it won’t hurt him.”

“You mean if you die?” Lillian asked. Gwen nodded.

“Gwen,” Lillian mumbled not knowing what to say. Gwen started crying. “Gweny,” Lillian said as she wrapped her arms around her crying sister.

“I don’t want to die Lily,” Gwen whispered, “I don’t want to be without Jay either.” Lillian smoothed her sister’s hair.

“Gwen, you have a visitor,” her mother called from the hallway.

“I’ll go,” Lillian mouthed as she climbed off the bed and walked out of the room.

“I don’t want to see anybody mom,” Gwen called.

“Too bad,” Jason said as he stepped into the room his arms folded up over his chest. Gwen looked up at his face, that showed no emotion except anger.

“Jay,” she whispered as she felt her insides twist. She wiped away the tears that had fallen down her face and held her head up. She tried to stay strong, although all she wanted to do was jump in his arms and kiss him.

“What are you doing here?” she asked.

“I came to talk to you,” Jason answered.

“About what?” she asked.

“What do you think I’m here to talk about?” he asked angrily, “I want an explanation.”

“Please lets not do this,” she begged.

“Maybe you don’t care about what we had, but I do and I want a fuckin’ explanation!” He said getting angrier.

“How can you say I don’t care?” Gwen asked getting more upset.

“Well you don’t seem to,” Jason yelled, “You know what, forget it. I think I’m going to take Adam up on his offer.”

“What offer?” she asked, climbing from her spot on the bed to be standing next to him.

“I’m going to move to Florida with him,” he said, “Seeing that I don’t have a reason to stay here.”

Gwen’s stomach dropped as he said those words, “Jay,” she whispered as she dropped to her knees, “Please don’t go.”

“Why it’s not like you want me here,” he said, looking down at Gwen who suddenly looked weak and helpless.

“I need you,” she cried as she wrapped her arms around his legs, “I thought I could do this without you, but I can’t. I need you Jay; I love you. Please don’t leave, I can’t beat this without you.”

Jay stood there frozen in his spot. Knowing those were the words he wanted to hear. He then knew for sure that this was the woman he wanted to be with forever, as long or as short as that may be.
