Chapter 1
“Is that it?” Leila Silvano asked tying the knot to her robe and pushing her black hair behind her shoulders.
“Yes, this will make a fantastic spread,” the photographer said, unloading his camera, “I’m sure they’ll love it.”
Leila nodded without saying anything and walked out of the well lit room where the photo crew was scurrying around. Quickly making it into her dressing room she disrobed, revealing the black bra and underwear she had just been photographed in for an advertisement for a lingerie company.
Slipping into her own clothes and wrapping a leather jacket around herself, she walked out of her dressing room and back out past where the fashion shoot was still going on.
“Miss. Silvano, I’ll pull your car around,” an assistant said watching the slender woman walk towards him.
“It’s about time someone do something for me around here,” Leila mumbled as she watched the man run off.
Leila pulled her sunglasses out of her purse and placed them over her eyes, shielding her vibrant green eyes from the sunlight as she stepped outside. She sighed as she crossed her arms in front of her, waiting for her car.
Today had not gone well. She was sick of incompetent photographers and crews. She was sick of going from fashion shoot to fashion shoot and still being a not so well known model. People recognized her on the street as the girl from the lingerie ad or from “that” magazine, but people didn’t know her by name.
She needed her break. That’s why she was trying to desperately to break into acting, already auditioning for 2 soap operas and scheduling an audition for a movie. Her big break was coming, she knew it… at least she hoped.
“Here you go Miss. Silvano,” the man said climbing out of the red convertible.
“Thank you,” Leila said without giving the guy a second look as she brushed past him and climbed into the drivers seat.
Looking into her passengers seat, she grabbed her cell phone she had left there and opened it, noticing she had a voice mail from her agent.
“Leila, I have some good news,” the man said, “give me a call as soon as you get out from the shoot.”
“I could use some good news,” Leila mumbled, dialing her agents cell phone number.
“Edward Nazarene here,” a man said picking up on the other line.
“Tell me you have some good news Ed,” Leila replied.
“I’ve got great news Leila,” he replied with a laugh, “I think I may have found your big break.”
“Really?” Leila asked, now intrigued as she leaned forward on the steering wheel of her parked car, “great, what is it.”
“It might not be ideal for you,” he started, “but just remember that this will be great exposure for you.”
“What is it?” Leila asked, her intrigue replaced with skepticism.
“It’s with the WWF,” Edward said quickly, waiting to hear Leila’s reply.
“The WWF?” Leila asked, “You mean wrestling.”
“Well, you wouldn’t be wrestling hun,” he replied quickly, “One of their announcers got a record deal, I think her name was Lillian Garcia, and they need a pretty new face to announce matches and interview backstage.”
“You’re insane,” Leila answered, “the WWF?”
“A lot of people have used the WWF as a stepping stone to other things,” Edward said pushing the idea, “Look at the Rock, he started in the WWF and now he’s doing movies.”
“Ed, I don’t know,” Leila said slowly, obviously not liking the idea.
“It’s great money too,” Ed interrupted, “I already scheduled a meeting for us with the owner, Vince McMahon for next week. We can go to the meeting and decide after that.”
“Fine,” Leila gave in, closing her eyes and leaning against the head rest, “but do you think it’s a good career move?”
“It couldn’t hurt,” Ed laughed, “sweetie, go home and lay down. I’m sure you had a long day.”
“Sure, fine,” Leila replied, “later.”
Leila listened to his phone click off as she flipped hers closed and threw it into the passenger seat.
“Unbelievable,” she mumbled, “absolutely unbelievable.”
She started her car and sped out of the parking lot, the warm breeze blowing her hair behind her. He was right, it couldn’t hurt her career, nothing could at that point.
“Swallow your pride,” she told herself, “if this will help your career and get you some money, just do it.”
Leila sighed as she turned on the music, blasting a rock song as loud as possible, trying to drown out her own thoughts and the idea of her career being over before it even got going.
