Chapter 12

Leila shut the TV off as she stood up and walked towards the sound of her ringing cell phone, finding it under some clothes in her bedroom.

“Hello?” she asked picking up.

“Leila?”

“Cynthia?” Leila answered surprised.

“Hi sweetie, how are you?” the woman’s whispery voice asked.

“I’m great,” Leila replied, hearing this woman’s voice was a welcome surprise.

“Where are you? Paris still?” Leila asked.

“I’m in L.A. now,” Cynthia answered, “on a movie set.”

“Really?” Leila asked, “Congratulations. That’s great.”

“Thanks,” Cynthia replied, “it’s been so long since we’ve seen each other hun.”

“Not since the evening gown shoot,” Leila answered, thinking about her friend of a few years, whom she had broken into the modeling business along with.

“It’s so good to hear your voice,” Cynthia added, “With all these movie buffs running around, it’s so good to hear a good friends voice!”

“Do you have anyone on the set with you?” Leila questioned, “your mom or anything?”

“My boyfriend Alan’s with me,” Cynthia added, “you haven’t met him yet, but he’s a great guy and you’d love him! We met at a photo shoot, he was a… oh Lay, I’m babbling! What’s new with you girl? Last I heard you were getting a contract with a wrestling agency?”

“The World Wrestling Federation,” Leila answered, “It’s surprisingly fun, the traveling is amazing, not to mention the money is more then I’ve ever made.”

“You sound happy!” Cynthia said, “There must be some pretty good looking guys running around.”

“Well,” Leila replied, thinking, “There are some pretty good looking ones…”

“Any hook-ups?” Cynthia interrupted, with a small laugh.

“Kind of,” Leila answered embarrassed, “there’s this guy Jeff, and we kinda went at it at this club.”

“That’s always a good thing,” Cynthia said with her whispery laugh, “doll, I hate to do this, but they need me on the set.”

“Cool, no problem. It was so nice talking to you!”

“We should definitely get together sometime,” Cynthia added, “just because we’re doing our own careers doesn’t mean we should forget about each other.”

“Definitely,” Leila agreed, “have fun on the set.”

Leila smiled as she turned her cell phone off and threw it back on the bed. Cynthia was one of the nicest and most genuine people she had ever met, and deserved all the success she was getting.

Leila sighed as she heard a knock on the suite door and quickly walked out of the bedroom and threw the sitting room, where she opened the door that had Jeff on the other side.

“I brought scripts and snacks,” Jeff said, holding up a bag and 2 folders.

“You read them yet?” Leila asked, taking one of the folders and stepping aside so Jeff could get in, “make yourself comfortable.”

“Thanks,” Jeff answered, taking a seat in the white love seat, “and I was waiting for you to read them.”

Leila nodded as she sat in a white armchair across from him. She watched carefully as he pulled a bag of chips out of the brown bag, along with a few cans of soda he had brought into the suite.

“Would you like some?” Jeff asked, offering the open bag at Leila, who looked at him with pure disgust.

“I don’t eat that kind of crap,” she retorted, “Do you know how many calories that has? It’s so unhealthy, you shouldn’t eat it either.”

“Whatever,” Jeff mumbled as he watched Leila take a can of diet coke off the table and open it, as she opened the script and started to read it.

Jeff laughed as he watched her eyes go wide as she continued to scan the page.

“What’s so funny?” Leila questioned, obviously not finding anything amusing.

“Your face looked so freaked,” Jeff laughed.

“You didn’t read this yet?” Leila questioned, waving the script.

“I told you I didn’t.”

“Well, read!” Leila demanded, shoving the paper into his face. Leila watched in surprise as Jeff continued to read and a small grin appeared on his face.

“Why I became a WWF superstar,” Jeff sighed.

“We’ve kissed before,” Leila reminded him, “Willingly…kinda.”

“Kinda?” Jeff questioned

“I was wasted and I had no control,” she answered.

“None whatsoever?”

“Ok, so I sort of knew what I was doing,” Leila sighed.

“Do you remember it or where you too drunk?” Jeff asked, taking a sip of the mountain dew he had opened.

“Sadly, I remember everything,” she responded.

“Sadly?”

“I can’t believe I acted like that,” Leila said, still embarrassed about that night, “I promised myself I would never do something like that. Just totally lose control.”

“Shit happens,” Jeff shrugged.

“Unfortunately,” Leila mumbled sadly, “it does.”

“What?” Jeff asked, not able to hear her.

“Nothing,” Leila replied, “let’s just do the script.”

Leila laughed as she sat across from Jeff half an hour later. She and Jeff had taken a break going over the script, and started talking. She felt her stomachache from laughing so hard at the stories Jeff was telling her.

“So Matt, Adam, and Jay decided to let 10 teenage girls into my hotel room while I was in the shower,” Jeff explained.

“What happened?” Leila asked anxiously, leaning forward and resting her arms on her knees.

“I walked out of the bathroom and got mauled for my towel,” Jeff said, a grin on his face.

“Oh my God,” Leila laughed, “Did you keep a hold of it?”

“Damn straight I did!” Jeff replied, “I never put up more of a fight then with those ten 13 year old girls.”

“That’s great!” Leila cried, sending her into another fit of laughter.

“Come on, you tell me one about you,” Jeff urged, “I already told you 10.”

“Well,” Leila said, thinking for a good story, “Oh, ok, you’ll like this one.”

“Great,” Jeff replied, taking a sip of his soda.

“During my freshman year at college, 2 of my friends decided to throw me out of our dorm room while I was in my bra and underwear,” Leila started, “and they wouldn’t let me in until I sang ‘I’m a Little Tea Pot’ in the middle of the hallway.”

“Did you?” Jeff asked.

“What else was I supposed to do?” Leila answered with a smile, before breaking into another fit of laughter, as Jeff started laughing too.

“Ok, let’s get back to the scripts,” Leila said, taking a deep breath, trying to control her laughter.

“Ok, should we…uh…practice the kiss?” Jeff asked awkwardly.

“Sure,” Leila agreed, equally embarrassed, “it’s for work, right?”

“Right,” Jeff nodded, “and it’s nothing we haven’t done before.”

“Right,” Leila agreed, as she stood up following Jeff.

“Ok,” Jeff said with a small laugh as he placed his hands on her hips. He heard her let out a small, nervous laugh.

Leila shut her eyes as she felt Jeff’s breath on her face, and soon his lips on hers and she felt like she was melting into him. This was so much better then the other kisses they had shared, and now she was sober enough to enjoy it… and she was.

She opened her mouth slightly, allowing Jeff’s tongue to enter and explore her mouth. Leila’s heart pounded as she wondered if Jeff was feeling the same way. Every memory of her not wanting to kiss Jeff vanished, and all she wanted to do was stay in his arms, with his lips on hers.

She opened her eyes as she felt Jeff pull back slowly, and smiled as she looked into his eyes. He smiled back, and licked his lips softly.

“That was…” Leila started softly, “nice…”

“It was,” Jeff agreed, “that should be what the WWF is looking for.”

“I’m sure it will be…good.”

“There will be a lot of jealous men come Monday,” Jeff smiled.

“A lot of jealous woman too…”

“Should I get going?” Jeff questioned.

“If you want to,” Leila said, but inside she wanted to tell him to stay.

“I don’t necessarily want to,” Jeff laughed, “but I think I should.”

“Ok,” Leila nodded, walking Jeff to the door where she leaned against the door frame.

“I had fun Leila,” Jeff said as he kissed her cheek quickly, “sweet dreams.”

“Sweet dreams,” Leila repeated as she watched Jeff leave and shut the door.

Leila smiled as she walked into her bedroom and flopped onto her bed. It was a long time since she had felt like that way, and she didn’t even know she was capable of still having those feelings. She hadn’t felt that was since… the smile disappeared off her face she closed her eyes and remembered the 2 reasons she didn’t allow herself to get close.

“Don’t fool yourself Leila,” she told herself, “it will only lead to more hurt.”

She frowned as she rolled over and shut off the light, allowing the darkness to wash over the room.

“And you’ve had more then enough hurt in this lifetime.”
