Chapter 19

Leila paced around the outside of Vince McMahon’s office nervously. Playing with the rings on her finger, she took a deep breath, trying to calm her nerves.

She knew what she was about to do would be the best for everyone. Herself and Jeff included. She was thankful she could see Mr. McMahon on such short notice.

“Miss. Silvano,” a secretary called, “Mr. McMahon will see you now.”

“Thank you,” Leila whispered, walking past the secretary and into Vince’s office where he was waiting.

“Thank you very much for seeing me on such short notice Mr. McMahon,” Leila said, shaking his hand over the desk.

“Is there a problem?” he asked, sitting down and looking at her intently, “you sounded upset when you called this morning.”

“Yes sir,” she replied, handing him a manila folder, “I’d like to hand in my resignation with the World Wrestling Federation.”

“I don’t know where she is!” Jeff exclaimed aggravated as he paced back and forth in his hotel room, Matt watching from the bed.

“Calm down bro,” Matt urged, “she’ll come around. Maybe she had a meeting or something.”

“How many people leave like that?” Jeff questioned, not stopping his pacing, “It was her suite for Christ sakes!”

“Maybe it was too much for her to handle,” Matt offered from the bed, “Y’all aren’t even dating and you’re already using the L-word.”

“There’s more to it then you know,” Jeff said irritated, sitting on the edge of his bed, “Do you think I should go back to her hotel room and wait for her?”

“You just came back from there 20 minutes ago Jeff!”

“You’re right,” Jeff nodded, “do you think something could have happened to her? An accident?”

“Or maybe she got kidnapped by aliens,” Matt responded annoyed, “Calm down man. I’ve never seen you act like this.”

“I’ve never felt this way before,” Jeff argued, “about anyone.”

“Why don’t you go take a shower, maybe go for a run, get your mind clear, and she might be back by then,” Matt suggested.

“That’s a good idea,” Jeff agreed, pulling some gym shorts out of his bag, “but if she stops by, page me. I’ll have my pager on me.”

Matt nodded as Jeff pulled a t-shirt over his head and walked out the door. Matt took a deep breath as he laid back on his bed and shut his eyes.

“Mom, please don’t let him get hurt,” Matt prayed out loud to his deceased mother, “Don’t let Jeff go through the pain Dad did when you passed away. Don’t let my baby brother get his heart broken.”

Matt laid silently on the bed and opened his eyes, the staleness in the air seemed to respond to Matt. Heartbreak and pain was inevitable.
