Chapter 21
I don't want you to give it all up
and leave your own life collecting dust
and I don't want you to feel sorry for me
you never gave us a chance to be
Leila ran threw the crowded hotel lobby, her tears blinding her.
Jeff’s voice echoed in her ears as she ran threw the door and into the rainy night. Within seconds she was completely wet, but she didn’t slow down. She just kept running
And I don't need you to be by my side
and tell me that everything’s all right
I just wanted you to tell me the truth
You know I'd do that for you
So why are you running away?
Why are you running away?
Leila screamed as she saw the headlights coming towards her. The car screeched to a halt inches from her shaking body.
“Are you ok?” the driver asked climbing out, “I didn’t see you.”
Leila shook her wet head before looking at the driver and ran away quickly, leaving the man shocked and speechless.
“Miss?” the man called as Leila’s feet pounded the pavement.
Running through the curtain of tears, she only saw one thing, which was Jeff’s face. And in her mind, could only hear Jeff.
I did enough to show you that I was willing to give and sacrifice
and I was the one who was lifting you up
when you thought your life had had enough
when I get close you turn away, nothing that I can do or say
so now I need you to tell me the truth
you know I would do that for you
It was true, Jeff was the only person who knew and the only person she felt close to. But it was too late to turn back now. She yelled as she slipped on the wet pavement, and landed fast first on the nearby grass.
So why are you running away?
Why are you running away?
Leila laid on the grass, allowing the rain to wash over her as she was overcome by her own tears.
“Jeff,” she sobbed, wanting him near again.
“Jeff!” she screamed, but her voice was lost in the storm.
Is it me? Is it you?
Nothing that
I can do
To make you change your mind
Leila stood up on her shaky legs, but fell down on the wet grass once again. Pulling her knees to her chest, she sat there, miserably, wishing the rain could wash away everything, and wash her away.
Is it me? Is it you?
Nothing that
I can do
Is it a waste of time?
Is it me? Is it you?
Nothing that
I can do
to make you change your mind
Leila stood up in the rain and looked up, allowing the water to wash away her tears as more formed in her eyes.
“Leila?” she heard a voice yell, she turned around slowly to see an image jogging to her through the sheet of rain, and immediately made it out to be Jeff.
“Jeff,” she whispered, feeling like a deer caught in the headlights. She wanted to run to him, but instead turned in the other direction and started to run again.
She wasn’t going to change her mind. She couldn’t go back, and this was all she could do.
She looked back once, to see Jeff still running after her, but knew soon he would be lost in the rain as her long legs continued to carry her.
So why are you running away?
Why are you running away?
(What is it that I have to say?)
So why are you running away?
(To make you admit you're afraid)
She sighed as she looked back, seeing that Jeff had given up and was nowhere behind. Once again, she fell to the ground as her tired legs gave out under her.
She sobbed as she lay there. Helpless, vulnerable and alone. She cried Jeff’s name over and over as the storm washed over her and all that could be heard was the distant thunder and rain.
Why are you running away?
